Bit of Happy #149: Worn With Smiles

22 Apr

“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.”
-Mark Twain, Following the Equator

The beautification of what we all tend to dread with age is what I truly love about today’s quote. It’s the skin worn with wrinkles that show we have lived. Laughed. Smiled. Enjoyed. Loved.

So what are you waiting for!?!

Happy Friday!

Bit of Happy #148: Together Forever

21 Apr

“We have been friends together in sunshine and in shade.”
-Anonymous

The type of friendship that we all search and long for. Reliability. Strength. Trust. Honesty. A friendship that will uphold through the thick and thin, in the sunshine and shade. That no matter what life brings, no matter what the obstacle or challenge at hand, two true friends will walk together.

Not only does today’s quote suggest this wonderful, “picture-perfect” friendship, but the author also hints towards it being possible (which is one of my favorite parts!). That, in spoken words, it has come true. That an unbreakable bond can be formed between two people throughout life. That compassion and selflessness can shine through despite the crazy ride our lives tend to lead.

And it’s the unpredictable future, the inevitable unknown that truly proves the strength of a friendship. Puts every aspect to the test. There is no doubt that relationships go through ups and downs – bend just before the point of breaking. Despite this struggle, it’s the willingness to fight for the other that will pull both of you through. That will bring your friendship out of the shade and back into the sun.

And the best part, that time of trial will have mostly likely made that bond stronger, richer… more full. You may have learned something new about the other person, or your relationship with them. You may have revealed a new depth of yourself and can now better understand the meaning of trust. You may have proven your confidence and faithfulness to the friendship in a time of doubt.

Always remember… when you find a friendship like the one described in today’s quote, treasure it like gold. Be willing to give it all of the nurture and effort it requires. Hold on tight because the ride along the way can be full of dips and sharp turns. Whether you’re in the shade or basking in the sunshine, hopefully when you look over at that special person, you can smile. You can smile and know that as long as they are at your side, everything will be just fine.

Do you have a friend like this in your life? What are some challenges you have faced along the way?

Bit of Happy #147: Just Enough Courage

20 Apr

[So, I've got a bit of a dilemma when it comes to photographs for this week, and perhaps the next couple of weeks. I have been dying to get out and take pictures of all the beautiful blooming going on outside, but because of my allergies, I've been restricted to indoors. As soon as I can get out there, I will and will update these entries with photographs. Until then, Little Bits of Happy will have to go on without them. Now for today's quote...!!!]

“The only courage that matters is the kind that gets you from one moment to the next.”
– Mignon McLaughlin

Just enough courage to get from one moment to the next. Each minute, hour, day that passes. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to get from one minute to the next and other times, it is smooth sailing through countless hours or even days.

But it’s those moments in life that are difficult and challenging that shine true courage. It’s those moments that you have to muster the confidence to get through each second that show your true strength. And even when you have to take one moment at a time to keep from getting overwhelmed, that’s okay too! Mignon McLaughlin gives great insight into what really matters, and that’s finding just enough courage to get from one moment in life to the next.

Bit of Happy #146: Love More

19 Apr

“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours.”
-Swedish Proverb

Each day, a coworker of mine sends out a quote to many of her friends and family… and ME!!! (since she knows how much I LOVE quotes). She actually shared this one today, and it brought a smile to my face this morning in the moments I read it. With my reaction, it gave me a great idea! And you know what that great idea was!? Bet you’ll never guess!!!

TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU!

The Swedish Proverb is gentle in its guidance but shows all of the great things that can come out of a positive attitude. Wake up each morning with a smile. With hope.

Savor each moment your given and take the time to actually embrace them fully. Focus on the positive and rise up with strength in times of doubt or weakness.

Speak, but share your thoughts after thinking about them. Choose your words wisely, instead of speaking from the tip of your tongue.

And finally, love. Love everything around you. Show kindness towards others. Show care and tenderness towards nature. And by doing each of these things every day air fills your lungs, all good things will be yours.

Bit of Happy #145: The Call

18 Apr

“The Call”
by Matt Kennon

When I first heard today’s song about a year ago, it moved me – practically brought me to tears. I thought about it the other day and couldn’t remember what it was called or who it was by. But one thing I could never forget is its message. “The Call” by Matt Kennon shares two incredible stories about the effect we can have on each others’ lives – on our loved ones, friends, family and possibly even strangers. Our words of kindness and courage can really mean a lot to someone in need; perhaps more than we will ever know.

Take a moment to listen to today’s Music Quote Monday, and the music video is pretty good too. Though it is a little sad, it is mostly happy in its conclusion, and I think it’s impossible to be disappointed with its underlying message:

“If someone you know is weighing on your mind,
And needs a friend on the other end of the line,
Don’t hesitate what you say may seem so small.
But who knows,
They might be glad you called.

So, make the call.”

Bit of Happy #144: A Sweet Saying

16 Apr

“If you live to be one hundred, I hope I live to be one hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
-Winnie the Pooh

A coworker of mine shared this quote with me not too long ago, and I thought it was too ADORABLE not to share with all of you.

And sorry for not posting on Friday and waiting until Saturday. Now that beautiful weather has hit my hometown, I’ve been absolutely miserable. It’s a very bittersweet couple of months. As much as I LOVE when the warmth of the sun begins to melt away all of the ice and snow from winter, spring also means allergies. And allergies, I don’t love. Not in the least bit. Thanks again for you patience!

I hope today’s quote warmed your heart just as it did mine. Have a GREAT rest of the weekend! Hopefully some of this rain will wash some of the pollen out of the air.

Bit of Happy #143: Mind, Heart and Soul

14 Apr

“The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.”
-Emily Dickinson

An open mind, open heart, open soul. What better way to go through life than to encompass all three of these things. Open the door to opportunity, to possibility, to change, to love.. Open yourself to the ability to experience things ecstatically.

Today’s quote by Emily Dickinson made me realize the importance of opening myself to life and everything it has to offer. And if you don’t know me by now, these types of quotes tend to surface on Little Bits of Happy more than not – why? Because they are my favorite kind!

Sometimes I need that reminder to embrace new experiences, welcome change, and approach opportunity without fear. And my reminders lie within these very quotes. The quotes I share each and every day with all of you. Hopefully these quotes can be the same reminder as it is for me.

Go! Experience! Change! Love! …and always leave your mind, heart and soul ajar to everything life has to offer.
