Bit of Happy #44: The Fuel For Love

An old barn near my house.

“Your ability to trust fuels your ability to love.”
-Anonymous

To me, it’s amazing how so few words strung together can hold so much truth – so much meaning. It is something I’ve said for a long time now. Trust is everything in the eyes of love; without it, you are blind and with it, you can see forever and beyond.

What I love most about this quote is the word chosen – ability. Your ability. The amount of trust you can put into someone equates to or drives your ability to love another. Without it, love simply cannot exist.

The importance this quote lends to trust in reference to love, I believe, is true. So true. It’s monumental. Trust is the very foundation of love. If you build a foundation of straw, it’ll surely collapse as time goes on. If you build a relationship on lies and deception, it’ll surely disintegrate to nothing. However, the foundation that’ll last forever is the one build on trust, leading to love.

Now, where it gets interesting (well, interesting isn’t quite the right word) is when you add in all of the heartache and lies of previous relationships. Will it affect your ability to trust in something new that comes along? Will you put up a guard and try to protect yourself from getting hurt again? Is closing your ability to trust someone new the answer to keeping yourself from heartache? Without a willingness to trust another, will you find yourself alone in the end?

If you’re expecting me to answer all of these questions, then you’ve come to the wrong place. Just as much as you may want to know these answers, I think they may be different for each person. I still find myself searching for the answers to these very questions. What is right for me.

Anyway, this is what I thought about when I came across this quote. What do you think?
