Bit of Happy #125: Hold My Hand

21 Mar

Hold My Hand
by Hootie and the Blowfish

It’s finally getting warmer, and with the beautiful weather will come some amazing summer songs! I’ve been holding out and trying so hard to wait for spring. And since the first day of spring was yesterday, I’m not waiting a moment longer! I love listening to this song in my car with the windows down and my hand floating in the breeze. “Hold My Hand” by Hootie and the Blowfish has a powerful message that brings people together and shows the strength in taking on the world hand in hand instead of trying to do so all alone.

“With a little love, and some tenderness,
We’ll walk upon the water.
We’ll rise above this mess.
With a little peace, and some harmony,
We’ll take the world together.
We’ll take ‘em by the hand.

‘Cause I’ve got a hand for you.
‘Cause I wanna run with you.”

Whether a cherished friendship, the love of your life, or the unbreakable bond between parent and child, “Hold My Hand” has incredibly strong lyrics that can touch the lives of many. With a little love, some tenderness, a little peace and some harmony, this song pulls us closer to our loved ones in a gentle, yet gravitating way.

I hope you listen to today’s song and find the same feeling in your heart that I have!

Happy Monday!

Bit of Happy #124: It’s Amazing What You Can Accomplish

18 Mar

“It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.”
-Harry Truman

There’s a ton of debate on what is the best and most fruitful approach to building a culture. In a collectivistic society, seeing success as a whole, people are not viewed as individuals, but rather as part of a group. They work together. Succeed together. Fail together. This culture may motivate some, but allow others to slack off.

Individualistic cultures, like the United States, allow for more personal gain and recognition. They are more self-centered and work toward personal goals and achievement. There tends to be more room for competition and can sometimes lead to more hostility or drive to become #1, no matter what you have to do to get there.

So, by today’s quote, I think Harry Truman is suggesting we adapt a more collectivistic approach to our work. The more we mold ourselves into one, and not worry about or crave for personal recognition, the more we will accomplish in the end. I personally believe there are advantages and disadvantages to both types of cultures. I also believe that some may thrive in one culture more than another based on their personality.

What do you think about today’s quote?

Would you rather live in a collectivisitic or individualistic culture? Why?

Do you think one is better than the other?

Bit of Happy #120: Bring It On Home

14 Mar

Want to know why today’s Music Quote Monday is Little Big Town’s “Bring It On Home?” Because it’s… AMAZING!!!! This song – everything about it… its melody, its lyrics – makes me melt inside. The thought of one day having this type of close bond with someone is something I can only dream of finding. Of achieving. When I was younger I used to pray for a love like this. To find someone who loves me more than life. Who has willing arms that will hold me tight, and a hand that will guide me through my uncertainty. And I can only hope to return that love in the best way I know how. I’m not saying that this hope has changed, if anything, it only grows stronger and stronger every day. So, take a moment out of your busy day to relax. Breathe. Listen.

“Bring It On Home”
by Little Big Town

“You’ve got someone here,
Wants to make it all right.
Someone that loves you more,
Than life, right here.

You’ve got willing arms that’ll hold you tight.
A hand to lead you on through the night, right here.
I know your heart can get,
All tangled up inside,
But don’t you keep it to yourself.

When your long day is over,
And you can barely drag your feet.
The weight of the world,
Is on your shoulders.
I know what you need,
Bring it on home to me.”

To be completely honest, I’ve gotten this far trying to choose what parts of the song I absolutely adore. I’ve found myself getting further and further down the lyrics, and I just can’t choose which ones to nix. Not one word went to waste in this song. And for that very reason, I’m going to leave every single one in – to the very last letter.

“You know I know you,
Like the back of my hand.
You know I’m gonna do,
All that I can right here.

Gonna lie with you,
Till you fall asleep.
When the morning comes,
I’m still gonna be right here.
Yes, I am.

So take your worries,
And just drop them at the door,
Baby, leave it all behind.

When your long day is over,
And you can barely drag your feet.
The weight of the world,
Is on your shoulders.
I know what you need,
Bring it on home to me.

Baby, let me be your safe harbor.
Don’t let the water come,
And carry you away.”

The last few lines here – “Let me be your safe harbor. Don’t let the water come, and carry you away” – fill my mind with a lucid imagery of waves crashing upon the shore with the possibility of a storm brewing in the distance. And just as I begin to feel as though the ocean may swallow me whole, a light shines brightly. I close my eyes and smile softly to myself, knowing exactly what is behind me. A tall lighthouse stands against the crashing waves. My safe harbor. You.

Happy Monday!!! I hope you fall for “Bring It On Home” just the way I have.

Bit of Happy #100: A Starry Night

14 Feb

“If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.”

Happy Valentine’s Day!

How lucky is it that Bit of Happy #100 happened to land on Valentine’s Day?! The day of showing love to everyone who means the most to you – your husband or wife, girlfriend or boyfriend, mother and father, children and grandchildren, family members, and even friends. It’s the day of having the right to be cheesy. The day of being able to show your true appreciation.

And to go with the cheese and lovey dovey-ness of Valentine’s Day, I chose to share one of my more mushy / adorably sweet quotes. The first time I read this quote it brought a smile to my face – a reaction making it definitely worthy of saving. Even though I feel like the true meaning of Valentine’s Day has been lost in all of the candy, chocolate and materialistic gifts, I still believe there are plenty who celebrate it solely to show how much love they have to share with the ones they care about most.

So incredibly pure and genuine, today’s quote, I’m sure, speaks for many Valentine’s Day lovers all over the world. It’s so special to find that one amazing person who can make you smile just by being in their presence, or when you are away from them, by the thoughts and memories that easily have the same effect. If you have found that special person, cherish and love every moment you have with them. And if you haven’t, it’s probably not too far down the road that he or she is waiting at the next light. With a little faith and patience, I believe love will find its way into everyone’s heart. You just have to be willing and open when it comes knocking on your door.

And on another note, Little Bits of Happy celebrates its 100th quote today, which makes today even MORE special! It has been an incredible journey so far, and I hope to be able to share many, many more quotes with all of you! A great, BIG thank you goes out to everyone who drops in and reads my posts, and a very special thank you goes to those who have taken the time out of each day to catch up on their daily dose of happy! Your support truly means the world to me, and I only hope to be able to give the world back to each of you through my daily entries – or at least a little inspiration!

Again, Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone had a great day!

Bit of Happy #40: Never Alone

8 Nov

So, I’m going to try something new on Mondays – Music Quote Mondays.

What inspired this idea? Well, the next quote in my book was a quote from a song. So, I was thinking… why only share a part of the song, when I can share the song in its entirety? Not to mention, this way I can also share the actual ‘musical’ part, not just the lyrics.

The first quote of a song that I came across in my book was this one – Never Alone by Lady Antebellum. Now, I wouldn’t go as far as saying this is my favorite song of all time, but it would be the song – that when I am to die – I would want to leave behind to all of my loved ones. That sounds kind of heavy, but it isn’t really meant to. I just fell in love with the lyrics. Fell in love with the way this song speaks to those who are left behind after a loved one dies. Fell in love with the comfort and strength I felt when hearing this song – the exact comfort and strength I would want to pass on to those who mean the most to me.

And although I hope not today, not tomorrow and not any time near this moment is the day I die, I always keep in mind that in life, you never truly know what day will be your last. This realization is probably the main influence on why I live my life the way I do. As full as I can. With as much love as I can. Without taking one moment for granted. And above all things, as I travel through life, I hope to bring only positivity to the lives I touch along. I always say, if even just one life breathes easier because I am alive, then my life was worth living, a million, ba-zillion times over.

So, I hope you enjoy the song! May it embrace you with the same hope I felt. Oh, and just a warning – I’m not an expert at Garage Band. Originally, I just wanted to share the MP3 but realized I couldn’t with the WordPress version I have. The only way I could share it with you was by making it a YouTube video, so pardon the lack of skill!

One of my favorite parts of the song: “Well, I have to be honest as much as I want it, I’m not gonna promise that the cold winds won’t blow. So, when hard times have found you, and your fears surround you, wrap my love around you. You’re never alone.” The exposed truth within these lyrics is undeniable. Life isn’t easy, and no one can promise or protect others from the hardships that life comes with – no matter how much they may want to. The only thing you can remind those who mean the most to you is that they will never be alone; they will always have you.

Do you like the idea of Music Quote Monday?
