Bit of Happy #100: A Starry Night

14 Feb

“If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.”
-Anonymous

Happy Valentine’s Day!

How lucky is it that Bit of Happy #100 happened to land on Valentine’s Day?! The day of showing love to everyone who means the most to you – your husband or wife, girlfriend or boyfriend, mother and father, children and grandchildren, family members, and even friends. It’s the day of having the right to be cheesy. The day of being able to show your true appreciation.

And to go with the cheese and lovey dovey-ness of Valentine’s Day, I chose to share one of my more mushy / adorably sweet quotes. The first time I read this quote it brought a smile to my face – a reaction making it definitely worthy of saving. Even though I feel like the true meaning of Valentine’s Day has been lost in all of the candy, chocolate and materialistic gifts, I still believe there are plenty who celebrate it solely to show how much love they have to share with the ones they care about most.

So incredibly pure and genuine, today’s quote, I’m sure, speaks for many Valentine’s Day lovers all over the world. It’s so special to find that one amazing person who can make you smile just by being in their presence, or when you are away from them, by the thoughts and memories that easily have the same effect. If you have found that special person, cherish and love every moment you have with them. And if you haven’t, it’s probably not too far down the road that he or she is waiting at the next light. With a little faith and patience, I believe love will find its way into everyone’s heart. You just have to be willing and open when it comes knocking on your door.

And on another note, Little Bits of Happy celebrates its 100th quote today, which makes today even MORE special! It has been an incredible journey so far, and I hope to be able to share many, many more quotes with all of you! A great, BIG thank you goes out to everyone who drops in and reads my posts, and a very special thank you goes to those who have taken the time out of each day to catch up on their daily dose of happy! Your support truly means the world to me, and I only hope to be able to give the world back to each of you through my daily entries – or at least a little inspiration!

Again, Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone had a great day!

Bit of Happy #78: Love With All My Heart

30 Dec

A collage of photographs I’ve taken, each with a line of this quote.

“I will know love no matter what circumstances the world may give me, no matter how many people choose to turn and walk away. I will find love in the laughter of little children, in the gentleness of animals, in the beauty and glory of nature, in the knowledge of myself. And when the day comes that I find someone who does not turn away, I will give love with all my heart.”
-Javan

I honestly can’t tell you why I’ve waited so long to share this quote on Little Bits of Happy. I guess I just wanted it to be a special, well-thought entry, and for whatever reason, I haven’t felt up for the challenge of delivering that. But today’s the day!

Why does it matter to me so much? Well, this is truly one of my most favorite quotes, probably ranked right below the first quote I ever jotted down in my quote book so many years ago. (Yes, I realize that was a relative statement.) In fact, if the quote by Emerson held no sentimental value, this one by Javan could have certainly taken its top spot. So with that said, I’m sure you’re beginning to get an idea of its importance to me (in case, the framed photographs hanging the wall of my bedroom gave you no clue).

Part of me is at a loss of words when it comes to this quote – another reason for the hesitation in trying to write about it. The confidence and determination in spreading love throughout the world is so bold within these words that I find myself asking, what more is there to say? It’s not often that I read a quote and am left completely star struck. But what I can say is this…

I find that I live my life in much the same way of this quote. I find love and happiness in all of the things around me – the laughter of little children, the gentleness of animals, the beauty and glory of nature, the knowledge of myself. And by finding that happiness, it fuels my ability to love no matter what challenges or setbacks I’m faced with. No matter what amount of hurt I have to endure. No matter how many people choose to turn and walk away. And with this strength, when the day comes that I find someone who can love me unconditionally, I will return that love with all of my heart.

The resilience in these words is remarkable. Something incredibly admirable. Something, at times, I find difficult to always live up to. Though each and every day, whether bogged down with hurt or disappointment, I try. I try to open my heart. I try to always let love and happiness flood in – even when I’m overwhelmed with sorrow. And that, to me, is one of the hardest things to do in life. To let love in even when there is the risk of being let down.

This quote brings me that inspiration. That drive to keep going, keep trying and keep loving. And as long as I can bring myself to do those very things, to love no matter what life throws my way, I will know I’ve done everything I can. I will know I’ve lived a full and happy life, free of regret. Free of ‘what ifs’. And the very fact that a simple quote can help remind me to love always, encourage me during times of doubt and reassure that I’m strong enough to do all of those things, well, that’s saying something! That’s saying more than something. That’s saying a lot! So, I guess that’s why I love this quote so much. Why I hold it so close to my heart.

I can only hope it will do the same for you..

Bit of Happy #45: My Wish

15 Nov

I love, love, LOVE this next one. It’s a country song. I know, I know – two country songs in a row, but it really sums everything up; right in these very lyrics are all the things I would hope for, for all of the people I love the most! And to even expand that – EVERYONE! I wish this kind of life for everyone in the world. Truly, I mean that. There’s a lot you can take and learn from in this song. All of life’s most precious moments and teachings.

I believe this song shows that each and every person – you deserve all of these things – “your dreams stay big, your worries stay small.” I hope you learn to appreciate and cherish all the things this song talks about – “I hope you always forgive and you never regret, and you help somebody every chance you get.” And above all things, I hope you can find this type of strength every day of your life when you get up in the morning and close your eyes at night – “And if one door opens to another door closed, I hope you keep on walking until you find the window.”

Can you guess it? If you don’t know it.. it’s called “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. Take a moment to listen to the lyrics. I hope you enjoy it.

I always imagined giving this song to my children (with the hope of one day being blessed with that experience, that is). The strength and encouragement within the lyrics are undeniable – the same strength and encouragement I wish to give my children every day for as long as I live.

It’s funny – the director of my mom’s preschool must have felt the same way, because she chose this song to sing for the end of the year at their graduation ceremony. For one, it amazed me that the teachers even wanted to take on the challenge of teaching such a complicated song to their little ones. And two, what was even more amazing is they learned. It shows you can teach anything with the proper patience and enthusiasm. Anyway, I wish I could show you the video of these children singing this song. It was absolutely precious. Beyond precious. And even though they probably didn’t fully understand the lyrics at that moment, I surely hope they one day find themselves living each day through that song.

Just figured this was a little story of hope to bring a few smiles. A way to start off the week on a positive note. Happy Monday!

Do you have a favorite part of the song? Find it inspiring? Encouraging? Motivating?

What lyrics can you take and learn from “My Wish?”

Bit of Happy #42: Let It Shine

10 Nov

Tracy, a coworker of mine, was nice enough to share one of her many favorite quotes with us. There are different versions of this quote, so I went with the one she submitted to me by Nelson Mandela. Tracy is an outgoing, full-of-life and passionate mother who is looking to ‘recycle her twenties’ – meaning going out there and living the experiences that she hasn’t gotten around to experiencing. From learning a new language to gambling in Vegas, you can follow Tracy on her amazing journey through her new blog, The Tracy Experiment. It’s a new beginning for her, a fresh start, a new chapter on life that she has yet to write. Travel with her through every step of the way in a fun loving and adventurous writing style. Don’t miss out on this great read!

The morning sun melting away the night’s frost.

Interestingly enough, I’d come across this quote one night while watching the tail end of ‘Coach Carter.’ I was so intrigued by this quote that I Googled it after the movie ended. I think that’s where the different versions come into play. Regardless, the meaning still shines through like sun’s rays slicing through evening clouds. And that is this…

Everyone is different. An individual. Two people may certainly be alike, but never identical. And because of this individuality, we each have different strengths – powers beyond measure. You are your biggest threat to reaching success. Your fears are your biggest doubt keeping you from enlightenment. Only you hold yourself back. And with this knowledge, what now will you do?

Shine! That’s what you’ll do. Shine with all your might. All your strength. Let all of your talents break through the clouds and shine on everyone around you. Don’t hide who you are. Take pride in your strengths and use them to serve the world around you. Your determination to be the best person you can be will not place condescending shadows on others, but instead will encourage them to do the same – shine! If the whole world brought out the best in others and in return, themselves, think where we could be today…

Powerful beyond measure.

Bit of Happy #11: Give Life Your All

28 Sep

“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.”
-Andrew Carnegie

Okay, so today’s quote comes with a fun activity! Well, it’s fun to me anyway. I made what is most commonly known as a ‘Bucket List.’ I’ve been building mine for many years now – long before the movie came out. So below is a list of all (well, not exactly all of them – some are a little more personal than what I’d like to share on the internet) of the things I would like to do before I no longer have that option. These are all goals. Goals that command my thoughts – that motivate and inspire me down to my core, my soul. So enjoy mine, but most importantly:

Share some of your goals. It can be a long list like mine, or just a few of them. What are some of the things you would put (or have) on your Bucket List?
