Bit of Happy #146: Love More

19 Apr

“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours.”
-Swedish Proverb

Each day, a coworker of mine sends out a quote to many of her friends and family… and ME!!! (since she knows how much I LOVE quotes). She actually shared this one today, and it brought a smile to my face this morning in the moments I read it. With my reaction, it gave me a great idea! And you know what that great idea was!? Bet you’ll never guess!!!

TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU!

The Swedish Proverb is gentle in its guidance but shows all of the great things that can come out of a positive attitude. Wake up each morning with a smile. With hope.

Savor each moment your given and take the time to actually embrace them fully. Focus on the positive and rise up with strength in times of doubt or weakness.

Speak, but share your thoughts after thinking about them. Choose your words wisely, instead of speaking from the tip of your tongue.

And finally, love. Love everything around you. Show kindness towards others. Show care and tenderness towards nature. And by doing each of these things every day air fills your lungs, all good things will be yours.

Bit of Happy #142: Ohhhh, the memories!

13 Apr

“Memory… is the diary that we all carry about with us.”
-Oscar Wilde

Memories… Like the first time we road down the sidewalk without training wheels and didn’t fall. Or the time we made a huge step toward finding our true passion in life. Or the first time we got that flutter in our heart from the person we were destined to spend the rest of our life with. Like a diary, all of these are incredible memories that we carry around with us each and every day. Though we may not take the time to revisit them daily, they are never far from our minds, or our hearts.

Today’s quote by Oscar Wilde is an imaginative take on our gift of remembrance. Along with the good memories, some difficult ones are intertwined – ones that we may avoid thinking of. Though, something I’m willing to bet is: despite that these memories may be ones we’d like to skip over, they are also the ones that we have either learned from, grew from, or chose a different path of life because of. These are the life lessons that if you hadn’t endured, you wouldn’t be you! So, with that said… when opening your diary of life, don’t be afraid to celebrate all of your memories!

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #101: Live In The Now!

15 Feb

“Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.”
-Denis Waitley

You’ve got to start somewhere, because if there’s no beginning to change, how do you ever expect to grow? Learn from your past, yes, but don’t live in it. By learning, you are changing. And by changing you are growing. And by growing, you are taking advantage of the present and putting your best foot forward.

Today’s quote has a lot of truth in that we only really have control over what is happening in this very moment. The past is already done – something that cannot be changed; something that is completely out of our control. The only thing we can choose to do with our past is learn from it and change how we will live our present.

And the future, well, that story is left unwritten and has yet to unfold. I can’t say, in this moment, that five years from now I will have met my soulmate, and we will get married. I have no control over when that will happen, or if it ever will happen. I believe, when it comes to looking forward to the future, it comes with a lot of hope. Why do I believe that? Honestly, there is no guarantee that I will live past tomorrow, or tonight even. I can only hope. I can only hope that I will live past tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day. And a million days after that!

But the moment in time that we do have control over is now. We can choose to set goals and learn from our past to make the best of the present moment. Whether we go forwards or backwards is completely our decision. Whether we choose to hold on to all of our wrongdoings and drown in our sorrowed memories is completely up to us. But we can also decide to live in the only moment of time over which we have any control… And that is now.

Bit of Happy #78: Love With All My Heart

30 Dec

A collage of photographs I’ve taken, each with a line of this quote.

“I will know love no matter what circumstances the world may give me, no matter how many people choose to turn and walk away. I will find love in the laughter of little children, in the gentleness of animals, in the beauty and glory of nature, in the knowledge of myself. And when the day comes that I find someone who does not turn away, I will give love with all my heart.”
-Javan

I honestly can’t tell you why I’ve waited so long to share this quote on Little Bits of Happy. I guess I just wanted it to be a special, well-thought entry, and for whatever reason, I haven’t felt up for the challenge of delivering that. But today’s the day!

Why does it matter to me so much? Well, this is truly one of my most favorite quotes, probably ranked right below the first quote I ever jotted down in my quote book so many years ago. (Yes, I realize that was a relative statement.) In fact, if the quote by Emerson held no sentimental value, this one by Javan could have certainly taken its top spot. So with that said, I’m sure you’re beginning to get an idea of its importance to me (in case, the framed photographs hanging the wall of my bedroom gave you no clue).

Part of me is at a loss of words when it comes to this quote – another reason for the hesitation in trying to write about it. The confidence and determination in spreading love throughout the world is so bold within these words that I find myself asking, what more is there to say? It’s not often that I read a quote and am left completely star struck. But what I can say is this…

I find that I live my life in much the same way of this quote. I find love and happiness in all of the things around me – the laughter of little children, the gentleness of animals, the beauty and glory of nature, the knowledge of myself. And by finding that happiness, it fuels my ability to love no matter what challenges or setbacks I’m faced with. No matter what amount of hurt I have to endure. No matter how many people choose to turn and walk away. And with this strength, when the day comes that I find someone who can love me unconditionally, I will return that love with all of my heart.

The resilience in these words is remarkable. Something incredibly admirable. Something, at times, I find difficult to always live up to. Though each and every day, whether bogged down with hurt or disappointment, I try. I try to open my heart. I try to always let love and happiness flood in – even when I’m overwhelmed with sorrow. And that, to me, is one of the hardest things to do in life. To let love in even when there is the risk of being let down.

This quote brings me that inspiration. That drive to keep going, keep trying and keep loving. And as long as I can bring myself to do those very things, to love no matter what life throws my way, I will know I’ve done everything I can. I will know I’ve lived a full and happy life, free of regret. Free of ‘what ifs’. And the very fact that a simple quote can help remind me to love always, encourage me during times of doubt and reassure that I’m strong enough to do all of those things, well, that’s saying something! That’s saying more than something. That’s saying a lot! So, I guess that’s why I love this quote so much. Why I hold it so close to my heart.

I can only hope it will do the same for you..
