Bit of Happy #146: Love More

19 Apr

“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours.”
-Swedish Proverb

Each day, a coworker of mine sends out a quote to many of her friends and family… and ME!!! (since she knows how much I LOVE quotes). She actually shared this one today, and it brought a smile to my face this morning in the moments I read it. With my reaction, it gave me a great idea! And you know what that great idea was!? Bet you’ll never guess!!!

TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU!

The Swedish Proverb is gentle in its guidance but shows all of the great things that can come out of a positive attitude. Wake up each morning with a smile. With hope.

Savor each moment your given and take the time to actually embrace them fully. Focus on the positive and rise up with strength in times of doubt or weakness.

Speak, but share your thoughts after thinking about them. Choose your words wisely, instead of speaking from the tip of your tongue.

And finally, love. Love everything around you. Show kindness towards others. Show care and tenderness towards nature. And by doing each of these things every day air fills your lungs, all good things will be yours.

Bit of Happy #137: It’s All About The Attitude

6 Apr

“Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think, say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you, we are in charge of our attitudes.”
– Charles Swindoll

A bright perspective on a truly important aspect of life, Charles Swindoll shares a very powerful message with us. Throughout life, I have certainly crossed paths with times of doubt, times of helplessness. There have been times that I felt like I wasn’t good enough or didn’t try my absolute hardest.

With this in mind, I wish I had found today’s quote sooner. I want to put it right above my bed so that every morning when I wake up, I am reminded of how I should go through each day. 10% of life is what happens to me, and 90% of it is how I react to those occurrences – what an incredible outlook! You can choose to smile about all of the things and people you have in your life, or you can choose to focus on what you don’t have. You can choose to allow unfavorable things that happen defeat you, or you can pick yourself up and throw that smile right back on your face.

Life all comes down to attitude. Are you open-minded and energetic about each situation you walk into? Or are you one to always point the finger and look at the negative first in each experience? Your reaction to what life brings is what ultimately determines the quality of each day you’re given. Given that 90% in life, you have all of the power in the world, and what you make of that power is completely up to you.

What do you think of today’s quote by Charles Swindoll?

Bit of Happy #113: The Beautiful Dreamer

3 Mar

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt

As beautiful as new fallen snow, the future blossoms from those who believe in possibility and chance. Embrace your dreams. Build them into your destiny. What you make of your life belongs to only one person. And that ONE person is YOU!

I love today’s quote because it seems to live and breathe optimism. All you have to do is believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams, and they are ready and waiting to come true.

What are some of your dreams? What’s are some of the most important things you want to accomplish in your future?

Bit of Happy #83: Doubting the Unquestionable

6 Jan

“One of the worst feelings in the world is having to doubt something that you thought was unquestionable.”
-Anonymous

Whether religion, or the one you have fallen in love with, or the family who has raised you since birth, there are certain things in life that you consider to be reliable, dependable and unchanging. These are the things in life that you would never dream of having to question. So with those things in mind, what if you suddenly were put in a position of doubt? Of question?

In ways, I don’t know if I would consider this quote to be a little bit of “happy,” because it is pointing a bright spotlight on a very negative aspect of life. At the same time, I love this quote. I love it because it makes me think. It makes me think about all of the things and people I hold closest to my heart, and what were to happen if I lost them, or my trust in them. And then it also sends me a subtle reminder to appreciate all of the love and support I’m given each and every day. That if I reached out for a helping hand or a supportive embrace, it would be there. And I am forever grateful for the ones in my life that I know will always be there.

So looking back on the quote’s clarity, would that be one of the worst things to experience in life? Yes.

Have I gone through it before? Yes.

Is it an easy experience to endure? Not in the slightest.

But with this knowledge now in mind and having experienced times of doubt in people I never imagined I’d question, I like to believe it’s made me a stronger person. It’s opened my eyes to a newfound appreciation. It’s allowed me to put my best foot forward. Hopefully, you can take something valuable away from this quote, just as I have.

Happy Thursday!

Bit of Happy #38: Find Your Niche

4 Nov

“Do what makes you happy,
Be with who makes you smile,
Laugh as much as you breathe,
And love as long as you live.”
-Anonymous

This quote, in my mind, has some of the best advice someone can give. It’s short, simple and to the point. If you made a checklist of each of these things, I don’t know how you could check all of them and find yourself unhappy in the end.

Don’t waste your time doing things that you don’t feel passionate about. Don’t know what your passionate about? Go out there and find it! Try something new. You can’t sit here and tell me that there’s not one thing in the world your passionate about. That’s just impossible. And once you find it, find a way to live it in every day you spent on this Earth. I promise you’ll find yourself more happy and definitely more fulfilled.

Don’t waste your time with people who don’t love and support you through thick and thin. Be with who makes you smile – laughing is okay too. 😉 But really, the people who you surround yourself with can really effect your happiness. Even in times of hardship, just being in the same room as positive people who truly care about you can lift your spirits. Trust me, it’s not worth being with someone who doesn’t love you for exactly who you are.

Even though the next one is quite impossible, still live by it! It’s fun and it makes me smile just reading it – “laugh as much as you breathe.” Go ahead. Have a laugh. And laugh a lot. Or at least, laugh as much as you can! There’s nothing better than a laugh that has tears rolling down your cheeks, your belly hurting and you wondering if you’ll ever be able to take a breath. Now that I think about it, that kind of sounds awful. But we all know different!

And the last, and probably most important one, is love. Give love to all you meet, and give more than you receive. This has me thinking of the song by the Black Eyed Peas, ‘Where Is The Love?’ Oldie, I know. For some reason it popped in my head. But everyone could use a little love – whether its as simple as a kind gesture or as deep as falling for your soulmate. Hiding or shying away from it is not the answer. It’s not love that hurts, it’s the people that attempt to love that do. Love is pure, honest and patient, and if you give and receive it every day of your life, consider yourself pretty lucky.

I’m telling ya’ – world’s best advice in that quote. Instead of taking it for granted, embrace it. Try it out. Dress yourself in it every day. Find your happy!

Bit of Happy #18: The Door To My Heart

7 Oct

Chicago from the Willis Tower

“You have come into my life through a door I was afraid would never be opened again for many have slammed it on their way out. Feel free to stay as long as you like, but should the time come that you must leave, please close the door gently as you go.”
-Javan

At one point or another, everyone has experienced heart break. Whether from a relationship, family member or friend, someone has slammed the door on your heart. Unfortunately, it is a part of life. A part that many of us would say we could certainly do without. But along with heartbreak, strength later follows. Or at least, I like to think so.

As much as you want to bolt, board and nail the door to your heart closed after experiencing love and loss, you would be letting ‘lonely’ win. And the only place ‘lonely’ gets you is alone. I know it’s difficult to open up your door, your heart to someone new. Trust me, I get it. And I’m not going around saying to open your heart to anyone. But when you find a nice person, when you get to know them for who they are – their values, beliefs, personality – and you can see that they are a good person inside out, what are you waiting for?

And when you find the strength to let someone cross your threshold, find the courage to offer him or her to sit down and stay a while. I promise you won’t regret it. You must take a chance to be happy. Without risk, the reward will be minimal. Without risk, you will never truly appreciate or understand the meaning of the company of another, or whatever it is you are taking a leap of faith for. And even if one day they decide to pick up their things and leave through the door they once entered, you won’t be right back before you started. Actually, you might be worse off. (I’M KIDDING!!!!!!) But in all seriousness, it might seem like you are worse off in the beginning. Especially if you felt closer to that person than you’ve ever felt with anyone before. In the beginning, it hurts. In the beginning, it’s not easy. I’m not going to put whipped cream and a cherry on top of this one. Break ups are never something that can be covered up or smoothed over.

But what you can choose to do is learn from it. Grow stronger from it. Pick yourself back up and keep living your life as full as possible. Look back at the risk you took and be proud of it. Be proud that you refused to allow your past to impede on your happiness in the future. And live on by that very sentence. If the entire world promised to live out their life, not through their past experiences, but through embracing the bright, unknown of the future, I think there’d be a lot more happier people in the world. Life is what you make it. Change what is negative in your life, and optimism shall follow.

What did you find to be inspirational enough to try love again after a difficult heart break?
