Bit of Happy #135: Sea Breeze

4 Apr

“Sea Breeze”
by Tyrone Wells

“Did I really meet her, or was it just a sweet dream…
That lingers in the morning, like a melody?
Over and over, all through the day,
I can’t stop thinking about how I’m feeling this way.

She moves like sea breeze, swirling around me.
The fragrance that she leaves, hangs in the air.
Soft like a whisper, she’s calling me to her.
These eyes have seen the most beautiful dream.”

A song unlike any other, “Sea Breeze” by Tyrone Wells holds a magic that I’ve never heard before. Not only are the lyrics flawless, but his voice is wholesome and tells an enchanting story. Left wondering if it was all just a dream, he laid eyes on what seems like an angel from heaven – she moved like sea breeze and smelled sweetly. Gently, he seems to gravitate toward her without much choice, she has this way about her that cannot be explained. In surrender, he recapitulates this encounter as the most beautiful dream he’s ever had.

This explanation is nothing that anyone can’t pull from these lyrics, but I wanted to open up the song topic for conversation with all of you. So take a moment to listen to today’s Music Quote Monday, and let me know what you think!

Happy Monday!

Bit of Happy #130: Smile

28 Mar

“Smile”
by Uncle Kracker

“You’re better then the best.
I’m lucky just to linger in your light.
Cooler than the flip side of my pillow, that’s right.”

Smile” by Uncle Kracker is an unforgettable song for its incredible lyrics. It’s pretty amazing when you’ve found that special person in your life whom you admire. Whether a lover, friend, parent, child, that person means the world to you. You feel lucky just to be in their presence. You become a better person simply because they exist. And with that comes happiness. And with happiness comes…

“You make me smile like the sun,
Fall out of bed,
Sing like a bird,
Dizzy in my head.
Spin like a record,
Crazy on a Sunday night.

You make me dance like a fool,
Forget how to breathe,
Shine like gold,
Buzz like a bee.
Just the thought of you can drive me wild,
Oh, you make me smile.”

...a smile. I love the randomness of these lyrics; yet like a jigsaw puzzle, they all have their perfect place. I believe the words come together and describe what it’s like to be in love. Though, in my opinion, the refrain tends to sound more like a deep infatuation for the other, the rest of lyrics are what tie a ribbon around the package and make it whole. Check out these remaining two pieces of verses to see what I mean:

“Even when you’re gone,
Somehow you come along,
Just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack.”

“Don’t know how I lived without you,
‘Cuz every time that I get around you,
I see the best of me inside your eyes
You make me smile.”

It’s amazing to realize even when that special person isn’t near you, you can still feel them all around you. Everything you look at, touch, or come in contact with reminds you of them in some way or another. Even when you face a difficult obstacle, they “come along, just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack.” They give you the courage, strength and hope that you need to make it through anything. They make you feel like the best person you can be. They make you smile. And that is something I consider extremely lucky to have. Something that deserves to be cherished and celebrated each and every day of your life. Even in the smallest of ways – a little note, a kiss, a ‘how was your day’ – it’s important to show gratefulness, and even more so… to put that smile right back on their face, just as they have done for you.

I hope you like today’s song as much as I do! When I here the intro start on the radio as I’m driving to work, it immediately brings a smile to my face. And I can only hope it’ll do the same for you. So have a listen, and let me know what you think!

Bit of Happy #92: Your Eyes Tell All

2 Feb

“Our eyes are placed in front because it is more important to look ahead than to look behind.”
-Anonymous

What a perfect quote for a perfect Wednesday! This has been one of my absolute favorites for a long time. As a constant reminder to look ahead to the future, what better way than the placement of your eyes?!

Created to move forward in life, we strive to achieve great things. Everything around us is in similar progression. Nothing in life can ever move backwards. Nothing can ever retreat. Even on a battle field, there’s still a progression of time and effort – whether or not the opposing side is forcing you to physically regress.

It’s the same thing with someone’s mind. You can choose to live in your past. You can choose to build walls around your heart in protection. You can choose to allow no one in. You can choose to take no risk, no chance. But you can’t choose that the future is happening all around you. Constantly. Each second that you spend guarded is a second lost to your past.

But with if instead, you choose to allow the past to live as a memory, as a lesson? What if you choose to live in the present? What if you choose to look ahead into the future? What if you choose to focus on the positive? There are a lot of moments in life that will test your strength. Your ability to trust again after being hurt. Your determination to see the good in every situation. Your willingness to help and love others unconditionally.

Take note to the placement of your eyes. I’m not necessarily sure I believe in fate or that there is a reason for everything that happens; however, I find an incredible amount of comfort in the possibility. So with that said, this quote gives a bright outlook on life. One in which gives us reason to look forward. To find excitement in possibility. To take an optimistic approach as we walk through each and every day. And in my opinion, if a quote can do that… It’s a quote worth keeping.

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #88: What Do You See?

27 Jan

One of the coolest things I’ve ever witnessed:

Ice storm of 2009 (or at least, it makes for great photography!)

“Look at everything as though you were seeing it either for the first or last time.”
-Betty Smith

Whether looking through novice eyes or ones filled with wisdom, the way you choose to see the world around you is solely up to you. Commit yourself to a life of appreciation, of wonder and of possibility. Why? Well through my eyes, this creates a world of magic, each turn through this journey is new and different. It hones your ability to pay attention to detail. It brings the important things in life into perspective. It encourages you to treasure each moment your heart continues to beat.

I love this quote by Betty Smith because it is a reminder to soak in our surroundings as though we’ve never seen it before, or as though we will never have another chance to see it again. May we make this promise to ourselves. May we wear this new set of eyes throughout each and every day. May we spread its important message to others. After all, who is to say we can’t? Why can’t we view everything as though we are seeing it for the first or last time? What is stopping us?

Bit of Happy #85: I Could Not Ask For More

24 Jan

I Could Not Ask For More
by Edwin McCain

Though there are many Edwin McCain songs I adore, “I Could Not Ask For More” is probably one of my favorite love songs in regard to lyrics. The undeniable love expressed through these words and the ever gratefulness of possessing that love brings this song to life. The selflessness and docility of the relationship portrayed bare optimism for the possibility – the possibility of finding the kind of love where… you couldn’t ask for anything more. And because of that very possibility, I revisit this song often when I’m looking for a little hope.

To pick out a few of my favorite verses:

“Lying here with you,
Listening to the rain.
Smiling just to see,
The smile upon your face.”

Sometimes I imagine what it would be like to live in this moment. At times, I’ll lie by my window and just listen to the droplets of a warm summer rain. And sometimes I find myself wishing when I looked over, there had been someone there lying with me. In that moment.

And as much as you may see this as an adverse recollection, I see it as opportunity. The opportunity to truly appreciate and cherish that moment when I finally do find someone to share it with. To me, there’s no better feeling than being with someone who can make me smile with their smile alone. That’s when I know I’m truly happy – when I can mirror the same optimism, no matter what kind of day I’ve had.

“Looking in your eyes,
Seeing all I need.
Everything you are,
Is everything to me.”

I think it’s pretty plain to see why I’ve fallen in love with these lyrics. I hope I can one day look into the eyes of the love of my life and see the world reflecting back at me. And this verse, more than any other lyrics I’ve ever come across, has conveyed this very connection I can only dream of one day possessing. And if I am blessed with this kind of love, I can only hope to then learn how to cherish it each and every day of my life.

Bit of Happy #75: Something Coming Over

27 Dec

Like many, I love the band, OAR. The difference – I didn’t really listen to their music until a few years ago. Most OAR fans my age grew up listening to them as a kid, but I never really gave them much of a chance until pretty recently. Anyway, one of my favorite songs – one that I fell in love with the moment I first heard it – is called “Something Coming Over.”

A love song at its finest, “Something Coming Over” takes on the excitement of a budding relationship, or perhaps the depth of loving another person so much that you find yourself changing for the better. This song tells a little love story about a guy who doesn’t recognize himself at first,

“Who’s that with his arms around you,
Making eyes at you that way?
He looks in love.
He looks familiar,
Damn, it’s me.
Never thought I’d see that day.”

but having found the girl that can settle him down, he finds himself happier than he’s ever been. The lyrics show that in his mind, she is worth settling down for; even though at first, he is unaware that it is even happening – much like the way true love seems to come about, if you ask me anyway.

“And now we’re talking about the future.
Oh, and our future’s wide open,
‘Cause your love is the best place I’ve ever been.”

This is one of my favorite lines of all the lyrics; I just love the optimism and sense of togetherness. It’s something I hope to one day experience and share with someone else – that same type of enthusiasm for each other. Openness and the ability to be spontaneous and excited about the unknown, I believe, is very important for a relationship. It keeps things fresh and new, and encourages a constant level of learning about each other.

So… if you think you know absolutely everything there is to know about the person who has your heart, think again. I’m certainly not denying or trying to discredit your closeness. I’m only attempting to challenge you. To get you to go out and find something that neither of you have ever done before, or done together. I can guarantee that whatever that experience may be, it will bring you closer. It’ll teach you more about one another, and even yourself. That’s the greatest thing about love – it’s ever growing, ever changing. And it’s up to you to keep your love growing and changing together.

Do like this song? Have you ever heard it before?

Did you see the lyrics in a different light or with a different story than I described?

An Old Norwegian Christmas Carousel Decoration

“Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.”
-Douglas MacArthur

Keep the passion burning, the light in your eyes and a smile on your face. Live life full of hope and wonder, and don’t be afraid to let your imagination carry you away. Put your whole heart into everything you do, and you’ll never age a day in your life.

What do you think of this quote? Do you find truth in these words?
