Bit of Happy #110: Live Like We’re Dying

28 Feb

“Live Like We’re Dying”
by Kris Allen

Why I haven’t shared this song sooner with Little Bits of Happy, I can’t quite explain. But it’s here now! “Live Like We’re Dying,” by Kris Allen has countless phrases within the song that I find myself hanging on to. The realities of life are so apparent and lucid in these lyrics – through the proposed questions and the secrets to walking a meaningful, enlightened path.

“So if your life flashed before you,
What would you wish you would’ve done?”

“And if your plane fell out of the skies,
Who would you call with your last goodbye?”

Embedded in the lyrics are questions. Questions that may be difficult to answer; others that may be as plain as day. But I love how this song makes you think. Makes you question. Makes you evaluate your life, and helps you realize the truly important things. The things you need to set as your top priority.

“Sometimes we fall down, can’t get back up.
We’re hiding behind skin that’s too tough.
How come we don’t say I love you enough?
Till it’s too late, it’s not too late.”

Life can be challenging – even bend you until you break. And out from these difficult experiences, we put on a thick skin to keep this vulnerability from happening again. We build these walls around ourselves so nothing can get in. Nothing bad, but nothing good either.

Is that really the answer here? Should we hide from life because it might end up breaking us? Should we not risk being happy because it may hurt us so much more in the end?

“We only got 86,400 seconds in a day…” to either change what we’ve got and make it better or waste that time doing nothing. We have the opportunity to change our lives, the lives of others.. the world. “Till it’s too late, it’s not too late.” Until we take our very last breath, the world is in our hands. It’s up to us whether we lift it up or break it down.

What will you do with your seconds, minutes, hours, days, months, years… time?

Bit of Happy #97: Color Outside Of The Lines!

9 Feb

“Why are we so afraid to color outside of the lines? Take a risk; don’t be afraid to draw the oceans red or the skies green, because this shows creativity. And where would the world be without it?”
-Anonymous

A quote that sits on my desk framed in bright colors, swirling lines and imaginative possibilities, I am reminded each and every day to ask myself… where would I be without creativity?

What do we have without creativity? Straight lines, bland patterns and shades of gray.

How do we live a life without creativity? By taking no chances, no risk and leaving no room for opportunity.

And how exciting would a world lacking any type of vision or imagination be?

With this quote top of mind, it reminds me to live with a little spontaneity, to appreciate the little things (that sometimes end up being the most important) and to wholeheartedly walk through life with an open mind. Open to possibility. Change. Opportunity. Imagination. Creativity.

This quote is telling all of us to… TAKE A CHANCE! Color the sky green and the ocean red. Make the most of what you are given, and yes, sometimes that does involve getting creative! I love this quote because it encourages us to live a little on our daring side. It shows us the importance of looking beyond the surface. It tells us to step outside of the box!

Our mind closes in to what we consider comfortable, and this quote is telling us to do the complete opposite. To push beyond those limits. To do what is unexpected. To find a new way of doing things.

Instead of falling into the monotonous ways of every day life, try looking at things from a new perspective. Look around as if it were your first time seeing the world. What would you change?

The answer to that very question has a lot of power. What you will do with that answer is completely up to you. It will probably take a lot of creativity. A lot of imagination. A lot of going beyond what is considered your comfort zone. But how will you look back on your life after 100 years if you don’t make that change, take that opportunity, reach your dreams?

That’s what I thought. So, what now? Well, if you ask me… I say, pick up that crayon (or colored pencil, paint brush, marker, you get where I’m going with this, lol) and start coloring!

Bit of Happy #95: Now Or Never

7 Feb

Though not a song you’ll hear on the radio right now, nor one with a million plus views on YouTube, “Now Or Never” by Steve Means certainly does not lack in meaningfulness. Not one verse goes to waste as “Now Or Never” takes you through life’s journey – the struggles and hardships, and the strength it takes to rise above them.

I love the powerful message behind this entire song, but here are a few of my favorite sets of lyrics:

“You take a chance,
And leave behind,
All that you have known.

Follow your dreams,
Into the dark.
The places you never thought you’d go.”

The level of vulnerability that comes with taking a chance and leaving behind everything you know can be undoubtedly overwhelming. I love that these lyrics recognize that difficulty, but still encourage you to follow your dreams even though you may not see the light at the end of the tunnel at first.

“So break into the light,
And the colors deep inside,
Will push away the doubt you find.
But maybe it’s that time,
For you to realize that it might be hard sometimes,
But you’ll be alright.”

Expressed through the chorus is the positivity of looking into the future and the awareness of life not always being easy. These lyrics give those who take a moment to listen to this song the opportunity to realize the benefit of taking those chances in life that may, at first, be scary. Because no matter what, you’ll be alright. You’ll learn. You’ll grow stronger. You’ll live life to its absolute fullest with little or no regret. You’ll step out of the darkness and ‘break into the light.’

I’m incredibly excited to share this song. Mostly because many of you have probably never heard of Steve Means, at least I don’t think he is all that popular. Not yet anyway. And I honestly love nothing more than finding a new, talented artist! And he is definitely that! So, hopefully you have a few minutes to listen to “Now Or Never.” You won’t be disappointed.

Happy Monday!

Bit of Happy #92: Your Eyes Tell All

2 Feb

“Our eyes are placed in front because it is more important to look ahead than to look behind.”
-Anonymous

What a perfect quote for a perfect Wednesday! This has been one of my absolute favorites for a long time. As a constant reminder to look ahead to the future, what better way than the placement of your eyes?!

Created to move forward in life, we strive to achieve great things. Everything around us is in similar progression. Nothing in life can ever move backwards. Nothing can ever retreat. Even on a battle field, there’s still a progression of time and effort – whether or not the opposing side is forcing you to physically regress.

It’s the same thing with someone’s mind. You can choose to live in your past. You can choose to build walls around your heart in protection. You can choose to allow no one in. You can choose to take no risk, no chance. But you can’t choose that the future is happening all around you. Constantly. Each second that you spend guarded is a second lost to your past.

But with if instead, you choose to allow the past to live as a memory, as a lesson? What if you choose to live in the present? What if you choose to look ahead into the future? What if you choose to focus on the positive? There are a lot of moments in life that will test your strength. Your ability to trust again after being hurt. Your determination to see the good in every situation. Your willingness to help and love others unconditionally.

Take note to the placement of your eyes. I’m not necessarily sure I believe in fate or that there is a reason for everything that happens; however, I find an incredible amount of comfort in the possibility. So with that said, this quote gives a bright outlook on life. One in which gives us reason to look forward. To find excitement in possibility. To take an optimistic approach as we walk through each and every day. And in my opinion, if a quote can do that… It’s a quote worth keeping.

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #41: Leave it up to chance?

9 Nov

Adorable little flowers I came across as I was
walking along a road near my house.

“There’s a time to let things happen, and a time to make things happen.”
– Hugh Prather

The hardest part is knowing what moments in your life call for which approach. When you should sit back and let the opportunity come to you, and when you should chase after that dream and make it happen are two completely different things. Depending upon what you’re contemplating will ultimately determine what route you should choose.

The only advice I can lend you is to follow your heart. Don’t think about it too much, and you’ll surely find your answer with time. Just be sure not to suffocate a chance that is meant to be free-spirited. If that’s even a question in your mind, take the passenger seat for a while and see what happens. Otherwise, I say go for it! There are times in life when patience is a lost opportunity.

I know it can be a difficult thing to judge, especially for certain, more delicate situations. But something that often brings me a sense of comfort in all of this is that if it is meant to happen, it will always find its way.

And on that note, I’ll leave you with a question (or a few)…

Is there something in your life you’ve been pondering on what you should do? What are some experiences that you’ve learned from in the past that you’ll do differently in the future?

Bit of Happy #30: Impossible, Is Nothing

25 Oct

“Impossible, is nothing.”
-Adidas

A great quote for a Monday!  …full of optimism to help everyone get through the week. And hey, if you’re reading this right now, you’re already one day down! I loved this quote when I found it, and even though Adidas probably directed this towards their athletes, I found it perfectly relatable to life in general and to everyone.

I like to believe that nothing is impossible, or impossible, is nothing. I like to believe there are endless possibilities and opportunities in life. When one door closes, another always opens – even if it’s just slightly ajar. Even if you have to go searching for it first. It’s always there. Only a closed mind and heart will keep you from finding opportunities. Soooo, there’s only one thing to do…

…and I know you know EXACTLY what that is! So, just do it!

(Oh right, that’s Nike.)

Do you find this quote inspiring and relatable to life outside of sports as well?
