Bit of Happy #100: A Starry Night

14 Feb

“If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you’ve made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.”
-Anonymous

Happy Valentine’s Day!

How lucky is it that Bit of Happy #100 happened to land on Valentine’s Day?! The day of showing love to everyone who means the most to you – your husband or wife, girlfriend or boyfriend, mother and father, children and grandchildren, family members, and even friends. It’s the day of having the right to be cheesy. The day of being able to show your true appreciation.

And to go with the cheese and lovey dovey-ness of Valentine’s Day, I chose to share one of my more mushy / adorably sweet quotes. The first time I read this quote it brought a smile to my face – a reaction making it definitely worthy of saving. Even though I feel like the true meaning of Valentine’s Day has been lost in all of the candy, chocolate and materialistic gifts, I still believe there are plenty who celebrate it solely to show how much love they have to share with the ones they care about most.

So incredibly pure and genuine, today’s quote, I’m sure, speaks for many Valentine’s Day lovers all over the world. It’s so special to find that one amazing person who can make you smile just by being in their presence, or when you are away from them, by the thoughts and memories that easily have the same effect. If you have found that special person, cherish and love every moment you have with them. And if you haven’t, it’s probably not too far down the road that he or she is waiting at the next light. With a little faith and patience, I believe love will find its way into everyone’s heart. You just have to be willing and open when it comes knocking on your door.

And on another note, Little Bits of Happy celebrates its 100th quote today, which makes today even MORE special! It has been an incredible journey so far, and I hope to be able to share many, many more quotes with all of you! A great, BIG thank you goes out to everyone who drops in and reads my posts, and a very special thank you goes to those who have taken the time out of each day to catch up on their daily dose of happy! Your support truly means the world to me, and I only hope to be able to give the world back to each of you through my daily entries – or at least a little inspiration!

Again, Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone had a great day!

Bit of Happy #90: Stand

31 Jan

“Stand”
by Rascal Flatts

All of us know what it’s like to feel alone. Helpless. Vulnerable. “Like a candle in a hurricane. Just like a picture with a broken frame.” Life comes with a lot of uncertainty. The unknown can be very overwhelming. One minute your traveling along a newly paved road, and the next you find yourself taking twists and turns down a beaten path with no end in sight. “Stand” by Rascal Flatts recognizes those bumps in the road, but also shows the strength and patience people have to find the next right turn.

“Because when push comes to shove,
You taste what you’re made of.
You might bend ’til you break,
Because it’s all you can take.

On your knees you look up,
Decide you’ve had enough.
You get mad, you get strong.
Wipe your hands, shake it off,
Then you stand.”

I had a hard time finding the song I wanted to share this week, but the moment I skimmed over “Stand” in my iTunes playlist, there was no question. The lyrics are pure and real. Like the sunlight through a dusty window, this song shines truth and strength, overpowering the uncertainty that life sometimes leads.

Life’s like a novel,
With the end ripped out.
The edge of a canyon,
With only one way down.

Take what you’re given,
Before its gone.
Start holding on,
Keep holding on.”

It expresses the fight and determination. The hope and appreciation. We all have it inside of us. Burning inside of us. Sometimes it’s not always easy to find, but once our search crosses paths with that passion, we never give up. We uncover a new direction. And we don’t stop until we are back up on our own two feet. This song has never failed to give me the inspiration I need to keep fighting when things get tough, and I hope it can do the same for you!

Happy Monday!

Bit of Happy #68: Every Waking Moment

16 Dec

An old, wooden barn across the street from my house.

“Resentment or grudges do no harm to the person against whom you had these feelings, but every day and every night of your life, they are eating at you.”
-Norman Vincent Peale

Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard from a quote are in these very words. And to me, the best advice isn’t one that tells you what to do, but rather shows you the truth. Shows you the consequences. Takes the reality and shoves it out into spotlight and then allows you to choose the path that is right for you.

Normally, this is where I give you my advice, which I know tends to be more directional (in a positive way, of course). But today, I’m going to leave it up to you to choose, just as the quote has (even though that’s ultimately what you would do anyway). So, take these words for what they are. Take this quote and consider what its value holds for you.

I know forgiveness isn’t always an easy thing to achieve. And maybe it’s not even forgiveness that this quote is telling us to work towards. Maybe it’s more of an acceptance. An acceptance of what happened. An acceptance in the past becoming the past, and no longer allowing it to interfere with the future.

I have faith in you! Hopefully you too can find some truth in this quote. Hopefully you too can one day feel the freeing effects it can encourage you to achieve. This quote has certainly done that for me in more than one instance. But I’ll tell you one thing, it’s a slow process. It’s not going to happen over night, especially if you were deeply affected by it. But you’ll get there one day. You’ll be able to close your eyes, take a deep breath and allow it to escape with a sense of relief. Just have patience. Take a little step each day (even when you’ve found yourself taking a couple steps back the day before). Before you know it, you’ll see the light. Like I said, I have faith!

What does this quote mean to you? Do you feel inspired by it?

Bit of Happy #41: Leave it up to chance?

9 Nov

walking along a road near my house.

“There’s a time to let things happen, and a time to make things happen.”
– Hugh Prather

The hardest part is knowing what moments in your life call for which approach. When you should sit back and let the opportunity come to you, and when you should chase after that dream and make it happen are two completely different things. Depending upon what you’re contemplating will ultimately determine what route you should choose.

The only advice I can lend you is to follow your heart. Don’t think about it too much, and you’ll surely find your answer with time. Just be sure not to suffocate a chance that is meant to be free-spirited. If that’s even a question in your mind, take the passenger seat for a while and see what happens. Otherwise, I say go for it! There are times in life when patience is a lost opportunity.

I know it can be a difficult thing to judge, especially for certain, more delicate situations. But something that often brings me a sense of comfort in all of this is that if it is meant to happen, it will always find its way.

And on that note, I’ll leave you with a question (or a few)…

Is there something in your life you’ve been pondering on what you should do? What are some experiences that you’ve learned from in the past that you’ll do differently in the future?
