Bit of Happy #119: Mind Over Matter

11 Mar

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
-Mark Twain

My friend sent around a forwarded email the other day with a handful of quotes, and this one brought a smile to my face. It was paired with a photograph of a bunch of older women doing some kind of exercise or ballet class, and I found a lot of inspiration from it. Unfortunately, I tend to have this terrible perception of getting old. It’s really the last thing I want to do. If I could find a way to stay 22-years-old for the rest of my life, I would be perfectly happy with that.

Though we all know that is not really an option, this quote is saying otherwise. And what I think it is trying to tell us is that we can always remain young in spirit. In the mind. If we think young, we will stay young at heart until the day we each die. And even when our skin is worn with wrinkles, we can still have that glimmer of child-like magic in our eyes. We can see the world through our imagination and choose to never stop learning. Experiencing. Growing.

I’m not quite sure if this quote necessarily took all of my fears of getting old away, but it certainly put it in a brighter, more welcoming light. Hopefully it can do the same for all of you!

Happy Friday!

Bit of Happy #108: Waking Up To Optimism

24 Feb

“Wake up every morning with the thought that something wonderful is about to happen.”
-Anonymous

Today’s photograph is a little different today. It’s actually not a photograph at all, but rather a scan of a sketch I did in high school. I just thought it was a beautiful little doodle of daffodils and would be something different to share on Little Bits of Happy.

With that said, today’s quote is like a breath of fresh air. I love the thought of waking up in the morning, rolling over, stretching my arms and legs and relaxing back into my soft mattress. And then as the first thought drifts into my mind, a small smile tugs at the corners of my lips. Something wonderful is going to happen today – the first thought. And with that optimism, I get out of bed with a little happiness in my step. Carrying that throughout the day, I await and open my mind to a miracle that is about to happen.

Whether that epiphany arises or not, the bright outlook you take on each and every morning is bound to bring positivity into all aspects of your life. It never hurts to dress with a happy thought each morning. To open a brand new day to possibility. Chance. Hope. Optimism.

What do you think of today’s quote?

Do you too believe it has the power to brighten the rest of your day? The people around you? The way you feel about yourself and where your life is going?

Bit of Happy #106: The Moments That Take Our Breath Away

22 Feb

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
-Anonymous

If this isn’t the cutest picture you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is! Annie, my dachshund, actually hates being photographed, but sometimes I can catch her making the most adorable expressions!

Anyway, first I’d like to say… Happy Tuesday!

Probably one of my favorites of all time, today’s quote is one that obviously slipped between the cracks; otherwise, I would have shared it much, much sooner! Over the weekend, it popped into my mind, and I had to go back through my quotes on Little Bits of Happy to see if I had posted it yet. Surprised after finding that I hadn’t, it was the first one on my list to share for this week.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take…” Whether you live 10 years or 100 years, the time you spend in this world doesn’t have an affect on its meaningfulness. A 10-year-old has the capability of making more of his or her life, making the lives of others better and making a significant difference than someone who may live 100 years.

“…But by the moments that take our breath away.” Measured by the cherished memories – moments that take our breath away – life may give us many days or just a few to experience them. The insignificance of the number of breaths we take certainly doesn’t mean to carelessly go through life. Instead, appreciate each moment you are given.

The moment you learn something new about yourself that you never knew before. The moment you change someone’s life for the better. The moment you share your first kiss with the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with (even though you may not know the significance of that person at the time). The moment you find strength within yourself when you, at first, doubted that strength. The moment you commit the rest of your life to someone, and they make the same promise to you. The moment you see the birth of your first child.

It’s these moments and many alike that truly measure the quality of your life. The unforgettable ones. The ones that you find yourself replaying in your mind when you are searching for encouragement, or looking to go back to the happiest points in your life. It’s these moments that take your breath away…

Hope you loved today’s quote as much as I did, and I would love to know what you think! Click the button below to share your thoughts!

Bit of Happy #69: There’s Always A Way

17 Dec

Little Snowman Ornament
(I just thought he was adorable!)

“When faced with a challenge, look for a way, not a way out.”
-David Weatherford

I know the photograph of the snowman is a day late considering we got all of our snow yesterday, but I’m sure there’s still snow coming down somewhere where someone will see this post! So in which case, this snowman is for you! And as for everyone else, here’s to hoping for more snow soon! (Minus the new worry of having to get to and from work safely.) But not even that can change my love for watching the snow fall!

Anyway, now for today’s quote! The sense of positivity in light of being faced with challenges is certainly a new, sometimes difficult concept to adopt. A lot of the time, we shy away from obstacles, whether in fear of failure or the unknown. But instead of avoiding those fears, Weatherford encourages us to do the opposite. Find a way. Face the unknown.

When going through your day, keep this quote in mind. Try overcoming the given challenge and don’t give up until you’ve found the right path. It may take a few times to find the way, but once you have, you’ll be stronger, wiser and better off. As long as you don’t run the other way, as long as you don’t find a way out of facing the challenge, you will learn. You will progress. You will grow. Even if you fail the first time, you pick yourself up and try again. Until you find the way, you never give up. And isn’t that what life’s all about?

I came across this quote yesterday and felt that it was just too good not to share on Little Bits of Happy. I hope all of you have a great and safe weekend! Happy Friday! Happy Holidays!

Christmas Countdown: 8 more days!

Bit of Happy #62: An Irresistible Love

8 Dec

My little sweetheart, Annie.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
-Anatole France

Ever since I was little, I always dreamed of having a dog of my own; fish just didn’t seem to cut it. Oh yeah, and my parents let me get two hermit crabs once, and trust me, I could have done without that experience.

Anyways, a few days after my 13th birthday, my family surprised me with a puppy of my own – a dachshund (in the picture above). I fell in love at the first sight of her. She was so tiny. So timid. When I first met her, she just sat very quietly, taking in all of her surroundings.

Now, at eight-years-old with her lay of the land, Annie barks at every waking moment, begs irresistibly and is constantly under my feet. But guess what? I love her to death… with all of her quirks included. She’s my sidekick. My buddy. My baby.

Inspired by the above photograph, I wanted to share this quote with you today. One that I found incredibly relatable. And if I’m guessing correctly, probably not only relatable to me, but you as well!

I’d love to see your pets, so send in some pictures! Email LittleBitsOfHappyBlog@gmail.com with an attached photograph, your name and the name of your furry, little (or BIG) friend. In fact, I’ll post them up on this entry as they come in!

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #49: The Greatest Adventure

19 Nov

“The biggest adventure you can take is to live the life of your dreams.”
-Oprah Winfrey

An optimistic quote for a happy friday! And since there’s no work and no classes for the next two days, maybe you can get a little taste of an adventure. 😀

Be safe. Have fun! And there will be more to come on Monday.
