Bit of Happy #138: A Gift With No Cost

7 Apr

“A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as no one needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.”
-Anonymous

I found a handful of quotes about the influence of a smile sometime last week. Not that a smile overload would be a bad thing, but I’ve been trying to spread out these new quotes with the others that I have.

Today’s quote, author unknown, was by far one of my favorites of the bunch. The entire thing as a whole brings so much positivity and light to what a smile can do for you… and what it can do for others. And the best part, it’s free! Free and requiring little time and effort, smiling tends to be contagious. We tend to experience happiness out from others’ happiness. Such a small gesture can brighten someone’s day – whether they are your best friend, your parent or a complete stranger.

“It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.” This part, this very sentence is what really tugged at my heart. It touched the very core of my soul. This is the line that made my thoughts drift to the ones I love, picturing each of them with a smile on their face. Cheesy perhaps, but just those memories of each one of them brought – well, what would you know – a smile to my face!

Give away your smiles and collect the ones that are given back to you. You never know when someone you know, or you yourself, may need to bring out that memory on a rainy day. It is the happiest moments that get us through the difficult times. It is the happiest moments that give us a reason to stay strong. It is the happiest moments that remind us why life is worth living.

“Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as no one needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give. So, give others a reason to remember to smile. Give them a reason to find happiness in their life. Give them a reason to live each moment to the absolute fullest. And you can do all of these things simply with a smile.

Bit of Happy #114: It’s All About The Money

4 Mar

“Life is like a coin. You can spend it any way you wish, but you only spend it once.”
-Lillian Dickson

JUST KIDDINGGGGG!

Normally, I wouldn’t like the value of life being compared to money, but when it comes to today’s quote, I think it’s quite brilliant. Like looking through a piece of glass, the truth lies crystal clear on the other side. And the reality of it is that you can spend this life any way you’d like. You can be whatever you want to be. Do whatever you want to do. But… yes, there is a but…

You can only spend it once. You’ve only got one shot to make it happen. Once chance to make this journey worthwhile. And just like money, once it’s gone, there’s no going back. This is the very reason that so many of Little Bits of Happy quotes are pushing me, and now you, to strive for your dreams. When the going gets tough, keep going. When it seems like the sun will never rise on tomorrow… have a little faith.

Life is so precious, much more so than money will ever be, but when it comes to today’s analogy, it couldn’t be any more true.

Happy Friday!!!

Bit of Happy #79: In Light of the New Year

31 Dec

“If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything.”
-Win Border

I’m sure there are certain things that you have put off doing this year, because for whatever reason, you felt that it wasn’t the right moment in time to do them. With a new year right around the corner (literally), I say we all take some advice from this quote. Make a change. Start new. Begin living. Experience everything you’ve been wanting to!

Just as this quote says, the truth is… that if you don’t start somewhere, you never will. You’ll wake up at ninety years old with creaky bones and wonder where all the time went. Wonder why you never made time for the things you always wanted to do.

I’m not disagreeing that there aren’t certain times for certain things. That sometimes it really is important to wait for the right moment. But for a lot of the other things, I think this quote has an incredible point and is perfect in light of the New Year. And with that said…

I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year!

Bit of Happy #27: Believe Everything Happens For A Reason

20 Oct

Beautiful butterfly in our backyard.

“Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So, love the people who treat you right, forget about the ones who don’t, and believe that everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. No body said that it would be easy. They just promised that it would be worthwhile.”

An inspiring quote to you get over the Wednesday hill of the week. Here’s to Friday coming as quickly as possible!

Bit of Happy #6: Flawlessly Flawed Prince(ss) Charming

21 Sep

“Love isn’t finding a perfect person. It’s seeing an imperfect person perfectly.”
-Sam Keen

By now, we know real life isn’t a fairy-tale. There is no prince charming galloping up on his white horse to save you of a broken heart from the last jerk. Love is messy. Love is imperfect – or maybe it’s just the people who are trying to love that are imperfect. Either way, life cannot be something that is flawless.

But I believe it is true love when two imperfect people come together in a perfect way. You are the indestructible team. The light in each other’s shadows. The courage to one another’s burdens. The strength to the other’s weakness. You fit – two pieces that become one single whole.

When I read this quote (which is by far one of my favorites!), I picture two people staring into the sunset, standing side by side, hand in hand. Ready to take on the world. No matter what challenges they are faced with. They are the unbreakable bond. The reason for getting up in the morning. The reason for existing. And as long as they have each other, life couldn’t be better. No matter the imperfections that exist… in each other, and in life.

That’s what I ultimately want out of life. What I want more than anything. My imperfect person…
