Bit of Happy #142: Ohhhh, the memories!

13 Apr

“Memory… is the diary that we all carry about with us.”
-Oscar Wilde

Memories… Like the first time we road down the sidewalk without training wheels and didn’t fall. Or the time we made a huge step toward finding our true passion in life. Or the first time we got that flutter in our heart from the person we were destined to spend the rest of our life with. Like a diary, all of these are incredible memories that we carry around with us each and every day. Though we may not take the time to revisit them daily, they are never far from our minds, or our hearts.

Today’s quote by Oscar Wilde is an imaginative take on our gift of remembrance. Along with the good memories, some difficult ones are intertwined – ones that we may avoid thinking of. Though, something I’m willing to bet is: despite that these memories may be ones we’d like to skip over, they are also the ones that we have either learned from, grew from, or chose a different path of life because of. These are the life lessons that if you hadn’t endured, you wouldn’t be you! So, with that said… when opening your diary of life, don’t be afraid to celebrate all of your memories!

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #140: Take Me There

11 Apr

“Take Me There”
by Rascal Flatts

“There’s a place in your heart where nobody’s been.
Take me there.”

This song stole my heart in the first two lines. I don’t think there are enough words in the world to describe how this song touched me. “Take Me There” by Rascal Flatts is, without a doubt, a love song but even then, it seems to reach deeper than that.

It’s not just any love – it’s a love where nobody previously has been before. It is a love that will go deeper than ever before. Grow stronger than ever before. Reach further to the depths of your soul, of your heart, than ever before.

And to make a statement to someone like the very first two lines of this song shows commitment. Shows willingness. Shows the passion to know their love inside out, better than anyone else in this world. And to me, that’s saying something. A lot actually.

A few more lines of the song follow, along with the video (which is pretty cute by the way). Take a moment to read and listen/watch, and if you like the song as much as I do, click the link below to hop on a fast track to buying the song and making it your very own!

“I wanna know, everything about you.
And I wanna go, down every road you’ve been.
Where your hopes and dreams and wishes live,
Where you keep the rest of your life hid.
I wanna know the girl behind that pretty stare.
Take me there.

Your first real kiss, your first true love, you were scared.
Show me where.
You learned about life, spent your summer nights, without a care.
Take me there.
I wanna roll down Mainstreet and back roads like you did when you were a kid.
What makes you who you are, tell me what your story is.

Bit of Happy #133: Vision With Action

31 Mar

“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.”
-Joel Barker

Dreams rise out from a vision, and they will remain dreams if action does not ensue. The true power comes in when you mesh the two – vision and action. Today’s quote by Joel Barker is inspirational. It whispers the secret to making a difference. To changing the world.

Form a vision. Turn it into a dream. And act on it. Make it happen. The most important thing, never lose sight of that vision as you develop a course of action. Each step you take down the path you have created, make sure it coincides with the dreams you initially built.

With that at the forefront of your mind, driving all your efforts, it will be very difficult to divert your plan down a different road. All you need is a little faith and to follow your heart. Do this, and your vision with action will have the ability to change the world.

Bit of Happy #132: What do you see?

30 Mar

“The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”
-Henry David Thoreau

Throughout every second of every day that we spend awake, we are constantly looking at things – as we drive, when we go out for lunch, the work we do, spending time with family and friends, watching a stranger pass on the sidewalk. There are lives living all around us; ones we touch with our own presence, and others we may never come in contact with.

There are plenty of things that we look at on any given day, but what do we see? When you look at a stranger with worn clothes, holding a sign that is asking for money, what do you see? When you look at an acquaintance who is in tears though you’ve never seen cry before, what do you see? When you look at a couple being affectionate and whispering in each others’ ears on a park bench, what do you see?

There’s body language that we take in every day to interpret the lives of others. If you walk past a person in the office with their head down, avoiding eye contact as opposed to someone who looks at you, smiles, and says, “Good Morning,” what do you see about those two people? What is different?

Today’s quote by Henry David Thoreau is asking us to put on our attentive glasses. To be aware and observant of our surroundings. It’s not what you look at that is important, but what you see. What you think. How you interpret.

Look around and realize your surroundings. Learn from them and anticipate the road ahead. Rather than blindly going through your day understand what you are looking at… See.

Bit of Happy #116: You-ER than YOU!

8 Mar

“Today you are you – that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is you-ER than you.”
-Dr. Suess

Though I didn’t realize it, my sister told me Dr. Suess Day was last week, Wednesday, March 2. Along with giving me that little tid-bit of information, she also gave me a great quote and her personal insight on what today’s Dr. Suess verse means to her!

“You may not know but the other day was Dr. Suess Day, and it brought up some great quotes – this happened to be my favorite. Sometimes it’s not easy to stick to your guns and go against the ‘norm.’ It’s much easier to just do what everyone else does to avoid criticism or feeling left out. But like the doctor says, “nobody is you-ER than you,” and it’s okay to be different. I’m the most comfortable being me, so you either love me or hate me, and I’m okay with that. Sometimes things that were written for five-year-olds still make the most sense.”

Certainly an adorable piece of advice put to a memorable rhyme, Dr. Suess does bring up a wonderful point. Yesterday, today, tomorrow, the next and the next day you will be you. Years down the road you will be you. In fact, there will never be a day of your life that you will be anyone but yourself. You may put on different masks and make decisions that aren’t necessarily your character, but ultimately, it’s still you. Just like it always will be.

So, learn to love the person you are! And be thee best person you can be. You know why? Because no one else on this planet can be any more you-ER than YOU!

Bit of Happy #84: A Brand New Tomorrow

7 Jan

Morning Ice Storm in 2009.

“Tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of your life.”
-Trading Hearts

Happy Friday, everyone! Unfortunately, I’m not feeling too well today, but I did want to take a moment and post a quote. It’s a very optimistic approach to looking at life and the road ahead. This quote by Trading Hearts inspires me to take each day and treat it as a new beginning. I believe its words can encourage many with that extra push of hope and motivation to get out there and live life to the fullest! To put the past behind them. To go through each day with a smile. To accomplish all of the things they’ve ever dreamed of doing. To reach their passion in life.

And now it’s your turn – to treat tomorrow as your new beginning. What will you do with it?

Bit of Happy #17: What are you settling for?

6 Oct

“Don’t settle for the one you can live with. Wait for the one you can’t live without.”
-Victoria Richards

Settling for anything in life – whether it is for love or something else – is a battle lost. Knowing you deserve better and not going out and achieving it or learning the proper skills to obtain it, well, you might as well be bleeding out in a bunker. (Okay, maybe that’s a little graphic. I was just trying to go along with the ‘battle’ theme.) Anyway, I’m telling you to stand up and fight for what you can’t live without; don’t settle for what’s comfortable – what you can live with.

If you are miserable at your job and know you can do better – don’t settle. If all you want to do in life is travel the world – don’t settle. If you deeply care about someone, but know you aren’t in love with him or her – don’t settle.

Settling is the easy way out – the mundane way out. If you’re too afraid to take the risk, then stay at your crappy job within ten miles of same location and staying with someone who you aren’t in love with for the rest of your life. You might learn to become completely satisfied with that. And if that works for you, great.

But instead, I’m asking you to do something a little more challenging. I’m asking you to go out and take the road less traveled. I’m asking you to take a chance. I’m asking you to chase after whatever it is that you can’t live without. Really… What’s the worst thing that could happen?

Do you find this quote inspiring? Is your perception different than this entry?
