Bit of Happy #148: Together Forever

21 Apr

“We have been friends together in sunshine and in shade.”
-Anonymous

The type of friendship that we all search and long for. Reliability. Strength. Trust. Honesty. A friendship that will uphold through the thick and thin, in the sunshine and shade. That no matter what life brings, no matter what the obstacle or challenge at hand, two true friends will walk together.

Not only does today’s quote suggest this wonderful, “picture-perfect” friendship, but the author also hints towards it being possible (which is one of my favorite parts!). That, in spoken words, it has come true. That an unbreakable bond can be formed between two people throughout life. That compassion and selflessness can shine through despite the crazy ride our lives tend to lead.

And it’s the unpredictable future, the inevitable unknown that truly proves the strength of a friendship. Puts every aspect to the test. There is no doubt that relationships go through ups and downs – bend just before the point of breaking. Despite this struggle, it’s the willingness to fight for the other that will pull both of you through. That will bring your friendship out of the shade and back into the sun.

And the best part, that time of trial will have mostly likely made that bond stronger, richer… more full. You may have learned something new about the other person, or your relationship with them. You may have revealed a new depth of yourself and can now better understand the meaning of trust. You may have proven your confidence and faithfulness to the friendship in a time of doubt.

Always remember… when you find a friendship like the one described in today’s quote, treasure it like gold. Be willing to give it all of the nurture and effort it requires. Hold on tight because the ride along the way can be full of dips and sharp turns. Whether you’re in the shade or basking in the sunshine, hopefully when you look over at that special person, you can smile. You can smile and know that as long as they are at your side, everything will be just fine.

Do you have a friend like this in your life? What are some challenges you have faced along the way?

Bit of Happy #106: The Moments That Take Our Breath Away

22 Feb

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”
-Anonymous

If this isn’t the cutest picture you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is! Annie, my dachshund, actually hates being photographed, but sometimes I can catch her making the most adorable expressions!

Anyway, first I’d like to say… Happy Tuesday!

Probably one of my favorites of all time, today’s quote is one that obviously slipped between the cracks; otherwise, I would have shared it much, much sooner! Over the weekend, it popped into my mind, and I had to go back through my quotes on Little Bits of Happy to see if I had posted it yet. Surprised after finding that I hadn’t, it was the first one on my list to share for this week.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take…” Whether you live 10 years or 100 years, the time you spend in this world doesn’t have an affect on its meaningfulness. A 10-year-old has the capability of making more of his or her life, making the lives of others better and making a significant difference than someone who may live 100 years.

“…But by the moments that take our breath away.” Measured by the cherished memories – moments that take our breath away – life may give us many days or just a few to experience them. The insignificance of the number of breaths we take certainly doesn’t mean to carelessly go through life. Instead, appreciate each moment you are given.

The moment you learn something new about yourself that you never knew before. The moment you change someone’s life for the better. The moment you share your first kiss with the person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with (even though you may not know the significance of that person at the time). The moment you find strength within yourself when you, at first, doubted that strength. The moment you commit the rest of your life to someone, and they make the same promise to you. The moment you see the birth of your first child.

It’s these moments and many alike that truly measure the quality of your life. The unforgettable ones. The ones that you find yourself replaying in your mind when you are searching for encouragement, or looking to go back to the happiest points in your life. It’s these moments that take your breath away…

Hope you loved today’s quote as much as I did, and I would love to know what you think! Click the button below to share your thoughts!

Bit of Happy #96: Remake The World

8 Feb

“As you go out to remake the world, I offer the following bits of wisdom — keep learning, stay awake to amazement, be kind rather than right. And, remember, while you might not agree with this now, being loved is better than being rich.”
-Anonymous

I actually found this quote on a card that was given to me by a family member when I graduated from college. I thought its message was perfect for someone who is graduating, or in a more general sense… turning to a new chapter in life. It reveals a very important lesson that everyone can take something from. Little bits of wisdom.

Keep learning. Stay awake to amazement. Be kind. Love should be held above all things. It’s funny because these are often things I find in many other quotes. These very bits of wisdom seem to pop up everywhere. And it’s that continuous reminder that makes me realize how important this advice truly is.

You know, this quote makes me picture a person after 100 years of life, with skin worn from wrinkles and hair of snow white, speaking these very words. That after being in this world all this time, they have learned – whether at the time or when it was too late – that these are the things that are truly important in life. It would be the advice that someone would give today’s youth as guidance towards a path of no regret. Of fulfillment. Of love.

And in the end, isn’t that what is most important? It’s not having all the money in the world. It’s not the tangible possessions either. But what is important is this… It’s the search for happiness and one day reaching it. It’s finding love and understanding how to appreciate it. It’s living in the moment and learning to cherish those memories.

Life is what you make of it. You can live in a world of gloom and darkness – purples and blues. Or, you can open the window and let the light shine in. The choice is yours for the making.

Bit of Happy #32: Carry Him With You

27 Oct

Khristine stumbled upon this quote while reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. She felt it could shed some spiritual light on my blog and personally found it optimistic in a time of hardship. Khristine did an AMAZING job sharing the following story with me and now, with all of the readers of Little Bits of Happy. It’s heart-felt, enlightening and reflective on how life can seem to be falling apart in the moment, but all you need is a little faith and guidance to find comfort in the truth – that there’s always room for opportunity in life. So here it is, and a special thanks goes out to Khristine for taking the time to share this. THANK YOUUUU!

“There’s one story behind this, and it’s quite interesting. I do not consider myself to be a very religious person and do not attend church every Sunday, but I do have strong faith in God. When my ex-boyfriend, Dave, ended our 3-year relationship only to find out he replaced me with one of my friends a few days later, I was devastated. I felt betrayed – not only by my boyfriend, but also by my friend who I was there for whenever she needed me. I didn’t know how to move on, and I was confused. It was a time when I just wanted to get away. In search of guidance, I found myself in front of my church. It was empty inside. No one was there. I sat on one of the pews and looked up at Christ’s body hanging on the cross. I burst into tears.

Being in that quiet church, I felt more connected with God. I usually find myself crying because of how painful it can be to live. I questioned Him: Why do bad things happen? I wanted to know why I was being forced to let go of people. I couldn’t see or hear him, but I felt him right next to me, listening quietly. In my head, I asked God: Why did it end like this? What did I do to deserve this? I am confused. Tell me what to do. Show me the right path. Please, God help me. I need help. I’m begging you. I know I don’t attend church as much as I should, but please, I need you.

I didn’t get my answers that day. Not the next day either. But after about six months, I was having the best time of my life. I found the answers to all of the questions I asked Him on that day at church – not right away and not all at once, but slowly and in many ways. I literally had to let go and allow Him to guide me to the right path. After six months, I fell in love with a guy who treated me like a queen, who swept me off my feet. I was truly lucky! God listens, and it is up to us to reach out and take His hand. His intentions will always be what is best for us.”
