Bit of Happy #97: Color Outside Of The Lines!

9 Feb

“Why are we so afraid to color outside of the lines? Take a risk; don’t be afraid to draw the oceans red or the skies green, because this shows creativity. And where would the world be without it?”
-Anonymous

A quote that sits on my desk framed in bright colors, swirling lines and imaginative possibilities, I am reminded each and every day to ask myself… where would I be without creativity?

What do we have without creativity? Straight lines, bland patterns and shades of gray.

How do we live a life without creativity? By taking no chances, no risk and leaving no room for opportunity.

And how exciting would a world lacking any type of vision or imagination be?

With this quote top of mind, it reminds me to live with a little spontaneity, to appreciate the little things (that sometimes end up being the most important) and to wholeheartedly walk through life with an open mind. Open to possibility. Change. Opportunity. Imagination. Creativity.

This quote is telling all of us to… TAKE A CHANCE! Color the sky green and the ocean red. Make the most of what you are given, and yes, sometimes that does involve getting creative! I love this quote because it encourages us to live a little on our daring side. It shows us the importance of looking beyond the surface. It tells us to step outside of the box!

Our mind closes in to what we consider comfortable, and this quote is telling us to do the complete opposite. To push beyond those limits. To do what is unexpected. To find a new way of doing things.

Instead of falling into the monotonous ways of every day life, try looking at things from a new perspective. Look around as if it were your first time seeing the world. What would you change?

The answer to that very question has a lot of power. What you will do with that answer is completely up to you. It will probably take a lot of creativity. A lot of imagination. A lot of going beyond what is considered your comfort zone. But how will you look back on your life after 100 years if you don’t make that change, take that opportunity, reach your dreams?

That’s what I thought. So, what now? Well, if you ask me… I say, pick up that crayon (or colored pencil, paint brush, marker, you get where I’m going with this, lol) and start coloring!

Bit of Happy #84: A Brand New Tomorrow

7 Jan

Morning Ice Storm in 2009.

“Tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of your life.”
-Trading Hearts

Happy Friday, everyone! Unfortunately, I’m not feeling too well today, but I did want to take a moment and post a quote. It’s a very optimistic approach to looking at life and the road ahead. This quote by Trading Hearts inspires me to take each day and treat it as a new beginning. I believe its words can encourage many with that extra push of hope and motivation to get out there and live life to the fullest! To put the past behind them. To go through each day with a smile. To accomplish all of the things they’ve ever dreamed of doing. To reach their passion in life.

And now it’s your turn – to treat tomorrow as your new beginning. What will you do with it?

Bit of Happy #82: From A Distance…

5 Jan

“One of the most difficult things to do in life is watch the one you love, love someone else.”
-Anonymous

Despite the fact that I’ve never experienced this on a personal level, I think I’ve seen enough chick flicks and watched enough of my friends deal with the difficulty of watching the ones they love move on. Even though I feel I can’t truly connect with this quote, I still thought it was a good one – incase I ever do encounter a similar situation (which hopefully I do not, but at least I’m prepared!). And best of all, I can now share it with all of you! In case some of you need it now…

And even though I don’t wish this experience upon anyone, I hope that it does give those of you who are going through this… a little hope. This quote recognizes the hardships in watching the one you love, love someone else. And it says it simply. It acknowledges that there’s no easy way around it. It offers no true advice, but at the same time… I picture this quote as two friends sitting together in silence, in each others’ company. And in that moment, it is exactly what they need. That the words of wisdom may go unspoken, but the endless support shines through.

Happy Wednesday!

Bit of Happy #79: In Light of the New Year

31 Dec

“If you wait to do everything until you’re sure it’s right, you’ll probably never do much of anything.”
-Win Border

I’m sure there are certain things that you have put off doing this year, because for whatever reason, you felt that it wasn’t the right moment in time to do them. With a new year right around the corner (literally), I say we all take some advice from this quote. Make a change. Start new. Begin living. Experience everything you’ve been wanting to!

Just as this quote says, the truth is… that if you don’t start somewhere, you never will. You’ll wake up at ninety years old with creaky bones and wonder where all the time went. Wonder why you never made time for the things you always wanted to do.

I’m not disagreeing that there aren’t certain times for certain things. That sometimes it really is important to wait for the right moment. But for a lot of the other things, I think this quote has an incredible point and is perfect in light of the New Year. And with that said…

I hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year!

Bit of Happy #74: Merry Christmas EVE!

24 Dec

“Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”
-Mother Teresa

I hope everyone is having a good Christmas Eve so far and has an amazing Christmas Day tomorrow! May all of you spend it with the people who mean the most to you.

Thought I’d share this quote today to help everyone get in the holiday spiirt – the spirit of giving. And one of the best things about this quote – just a simple smile can go a long way. Showing love and cheer to all you meet is a special gift. And a smile can do just that.

I’m going to go help with Christmas dinner, but I just wanted to post a quote for today before spending the rest of the night with my family.

Again, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Bit of Happy #72: Looking Back

22 Dec

Today’s quote was submitted by my mother, Christine (very informally might I add). She would never be able to figure out how to download the Submit A Quote form, nor fill it out, nor send it as an attachment back to me! Therefore, I did all the grunt work; being computer savvy was a gift never passed to her through the world of technology. But that’s okay, because after an INCREDIBLY hectic day, she provided me with a quote – and a very good one at that!

When my mom got home from work tonight, she came in my room with a piece of paper in her hand – small and torn. She handed it to me, and in her handwriting was this quote written by Robert Brault.

“Thought you might like this for your blog,” she said with a grin, proud of her thoughtfulness.

I read it over and looked up to her, a smile tugging at my lips. “You’re right. I love it! Thank you.”

And from there, today’s inspiration was born!!!!

Decorating the Christmas Tree

As something we should all keep in mind, this quote brings up a great point. The insight into what is truly important in life – not always the big things – we are encouraged to take a moment each day and smell the roses, or feel the breeze through your hair or the warmth of the sun on your skin.

One of the little things in life that I tend to appreciate the most is the turn of each season. Not only do I love the physical changes each season offers – the beautiful colors of the turning leaves, the budding flowers of early spring, the falling snowflakes of winter, and the growing cornstalks of summer – but I also love the things I can’t see.

The little things that we must close our eyes to fully experience. Like the dewey, fresh smell of spring, or the crisp, autumn coolness that bites at your nose. Like the sounds of summer birds dipping and diving through the air, or the howling of the winter wind at my window as night falls.

If you’ve never taken a moment to take in your surroundings (which hopefully is not the case, but if it is), take that second or two. Or even a few minutes. In the summer, lay out a blanket and stare up at the clouds floating by. Or in the winter, cuddle up next to a fire and listen to the crackle of the burning wood. It’s never too late to pay attention to the little things in life. It’s never too late to appreciate them.

What are some of the little things you appreciate?

What are some of the little things that you may be missing out on? Or that you don’t take enough time to appreciate?

Bit of Happy #66: What TO Wear

14 Dec

My Mother’s Lampe Berger

“Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important.”
-Janet Lane

I just recently came across this quote, and I love, love, LOVE it! Lane’s words, clever in arrangement, inspire positivity in me and hopefully you as well! It encourages me to reflect on how I approach others. It brings awareness to the importance of expression. That it’s not necessarily what shade of blue I wear that’s important, but rather the way I present myself. If I express happiness to all I meet, it is likely that my happiness will rub off on them. Or at the very least, be one less reason for them to justify their discontentment.

I know that it can be difficult to be happy all of the time. I know that it’s nearly impossible to express happiness throughout your day when you aren’t feeling it in your heart. But I can promise you one thing, the happier you can make yourself seem, the more likely that happiness will become real. Surround yourself with family and friends who love you. Fill your time with things you love doing. And don’t ever lose hope that tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of your life. Go into each day with that attitude, and you’ll be sure to find happiness within your expression.

Do you like this quote? What does it mean to you?
