“Smile” by Uncle Kracker is an unforgettable song for its incredible lyrics. It’s pretty amazing when you’ve found that special person in your life whom you admire. Whether a lover, friend, parent, child, that person means the world to you. You feel lucky just to be in their presence. You become a better person simply because they exist. And with that comes happiness. And with happiness comes…

“You make me smile like the sun,
Fall out of bed,
Sing like a bird,
Dizzy in my head.
Spin like a record,
Crazy on a Sunday night.

You make me dance like a fool,
Forget how to breathe,
Shine like gold,
Buzz like a bee.
Just the thought of you can drive me wild,

...a smile. I love the randomness of these lyrics; yet like a jigsaw puzzle, they all have their perfect place. I believe the words come together and describe what it’s like to be in love. Though, in my opinion, the refrain tends to sound more like a deep infatuation for the other, the rest of lyrics are what tie a ribbon around the package and make it whole. Check out these remaining two pieces of verses to see what I mean:

Just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack.”

It’s amazing to realize even when that special person isn’t near you, you can still feel them all around you. Everything you look at, touch, or come in contact with reminds you of them in some way or another. Even when you face a difficult obstacle, they “come along, just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack.” They give you the courage, strength and hope that you need to make it through anything. They make you feel like the best person you can be. They make you smile. And that is something I consider extremely lucky to have. Something that deserves to be cherished and celebrated each and every day of your life. Even in the smallest of ways – a little note, a kiss, a ‘how was your day’ – it’s important to show gratefulness, and even more so… to put that smile right back on their face, just as they have done for you.
