Bit of Happy #143: Mind, Heart and Soul

14 Apr

“The soul should always stand ajar, ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.”
-Emily Dickinson

An open mind, open heart, open soul. What better way to go through life than to encompass all three of these things. Open the door to opportunity, to possibility, to change, to love.. Open yourself to the ability to experience things ecstatically.

Today’s quote by Emily Dickinson made me realize the importance of opening myself to life and everything it has to offer. And if you don’t know me by now, these types of quotes tend to surface on Little Bits of Happy more than not – why? Because they are my favorite kind!

Sometimes I need that reminder to embrace new experiences, welcome change, and approach opportunity without fear. And my reminders lie within these very quotes. The quotes I share each and every day with all of you. Hopefully these quotes can be the same reminder as it is for me.

Go! Experience! Change! Love! …and always leave your mind, heart and soul ajar to everything life has to offer.

Bit of Happy #119: Mind Over Matter

11 Mar

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
-Mark Twain

My friend sent around a forwarded email the other day with a handful of quotes, and this one brought a smile to my face. It was paired with a photograph of a bunch of older women doing some kind of exercise or ballet class, and I found a lot of inspiration from it. Unfortunately, I tend to have this terrible perception of getting old. It’s really the last thing I want to do. If I could find a way to stay 22-years-old for the rest of my life, I would be perfectly happy with that.

Though we all know that is not really an option, this quote is saying otherwise. And what I think it is trying to tell us is that we can always remain young in spirit. In the mind. If we think young, we will stay young at heart until the day we each die. And even when our skin is worn with wrinkles, we can still have that glimmer of child-like magic in our eyes. We can see the world through our imagination and choose to never stop learning. Experiencing. Growing.

I’m not quite sure if this quote necessarily took all of my fears of getting old away, but it certainly put it in a brighter, more welcoming light. Hopefully it can do the same for all of you!

Happy Friday!

How Will You Give Something Beautiful to the World?

13 Sep

Earlier today, I was thinking of how to start this blog – what my first entry should be like. It’s always hard to start something new. To make the first mark on a blank canvas. But when it comes down to it, this entry isn’t going to have much meaning or overall impact on the blog. Not at all, really. It’s only going to be the first stroke of many that will end up part of  a beautiful masterpiece. It may be the stroke that is covered by the rest, or the one that stands out the most. But the canvas will always remain blank if you’re too afraid to pick up the brush and start.

So, How will I give something beautiful to the world?

I started with this collection of quotes. A few years back, I was inspired to jot down these precious snippets in a small notebook as I stumbled upon them. Attached to these quotes are memories, feelings and inspirations of my past… These quotes have woven into the very threads of my life.

My intention with this blog is to share my little bits of happy on a larger scale. Friends and family would come over and flip through the collection and each of them would fall in love with different ones. They were touched by the quotes in different ways. So I started thinking – how can I share them with lots of people?

Thinking about what quotes have done for me… What if I could help others feel the same way, simply by sharing. These are the quotes that have given me hope in times of doubt, that have given me courage in times of diffident. Out of this blog, I want to bring hope and joy in the lives of others. I want to help raise people out of the despair or uncertainty in their lives. Put a smile on a frowning face. To give something beautiful to the world, even if it’s only one life that breathes easier…

So,with all that said… Welcome to Little Bits of Happy.
