Bit of Happy #146: Love More

19 Apr

“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours.”
-Swedish Proverb

Each day, a coworker of mine sends out a quote to many of her friends and family… and ME!!! (since she knows how much I LOVE quotes). She actually shared this one today, and it brought a smile to my face this morning in the moments I read it. With my reaction, it gave me a great idea! And you know what that great idea was!? Bet you’ll never guess!!!

TO SHARE IT WITH ALL OF YOU!

The Swedish Proverb is gentle in its guidance but shows all of the great things that can come out of a positive attitude. Wake up each morning with a smile. With hope.

Savor each moment your given and take the time to actually embrace them fully. Focus on the positive and rise up with strength in times of doubt or weakness.

Speak, but share your thoughts after thinking about them. Choose your words wisely, instead of speaking from the tip of your tongue.

And finally, love. Love everything around you. Show kindness towards others. Show care and tenderness towards nature. And by doing each of these things every day air fills your lungs, all good things will be yours.

Bit of Happy 131: Goals Aren’t Enough!

29 Mar

“Goals aren’t enough! You need goals plus deadlines: goals big enough to get excited about and deadlines to make you run. One isn’t much good without the other, but together they can be tremendous.”
-Ben Feldman

A while back, I started thinking about where Little Bits of Happy was going. What do I want to accomplish? When will it be finished? How many Little Bits of Happy should there be? For the past two months or so, I’ve been sitting on these big questions. I started this blog without a clear distinct ending point, and though I had a goal of changing the world through my quotes and my thoughts… how will I measure the success of that?

Though some of these questions are still left unanswered, today’s quote by Ben Feldman made me realize the true importance of deadlines. The goal of changing lives through my words was certainly enough to get me excited, but it’s the deadline that I believe will give me the drive to accomplish it. So here it is:

Deadline: I want to get to Bit of Happy #365 by April 30 of next year, 2012.

That’s right! 365 Quotes – one quote for each day of the year! Like your morning coffee, Little Bits of Happy can become a daily ritual – that little bit of inspiration to get motivated for the day ahead.

Since I have #234 left, and that’s more than twice the amount that I have now, I realize the weight of this commitment. It will take a lot of motivation to still be posting a Little Bit of Happy every day this time next year. But I want to do this. And as long as that passion, that drive stays with me, I know I can do this.

Why does there have to be an end? There are a lot of other dreams and aspirations I want to accomplish in life. And believe it or not, this commitment takes up a great deal of my time. Because of this, it is important to have a deadline – an ending point. Not because I want Little Bits of Happy to end, but because I want to fully experience this and then move on to the next chapter in my life. I never imagined this blog would steal my heart the way it has. I’ve always wanted to start one, but never did I think beyond its beginning. And now that Little Bits of Happy has hit the ground running, up to #131, the next step was to look into the future.

I hope you liked today’s quote, and perhaps felt inspired to create a deadline for a goal you have in life. Deadlines get things started and accomplished. And I think it helps us see that what we want is possible. The first step is to begin!

Happy Tuesday!

Bit of Happy #109: Just Right

25 Feb

“Sometimes someone says something really small, and it just fits right into this empty place in your heart.”
-Winnie Holzman

Have you ever experienced those moments in life when someone says something to you, and it’s exactly what you needed to hear in that moment? Sometimes I feel like there are angels on Earth that come and rescue me in my times of need. Who know all the right things to say to give me the hope and strength I need to carry on. And I love nothing more than to be able to return the same clarity to the people I care about most, and even strangers.

Give more than you take. And help more than need. If the world focused a little more on ‘give’ and ‘help’ and a little less on ‘take’ and ‘want,’ I think we would have a more gracious life with a much brighter future. Like the sun’s rays sifting through the pine trees, a compliment, words of advice or a kind gesture has the power to fill the empty place in someone’s heart. It has the power to bring hope, joy and reassurance in their time of doubt or hardship.

Kind words can be an irreplaceable gift. And sometimes those words are all a person needs to find their inner strength – their drive to keep fighting. To keep breathing. To keep living. To me, there’s no better sense of success than helping people find the light that was always there to begin with. I live for those moments.

Did today’s quote inspire you to reach out to others?

Has someone ever said the perfect thing just when you needed to hear it?

Bit of Happy #107: The Turning Point

23 Feb

“The turning point in the process of growing up is when you discover the core of strength within you that survives all hurt.”
-Max Lerner

To get over the hill of this week, today’s quote by Max Lerner brings light to a new discovery and lesson in learning more about who you are and where your strength lies. In life, there are moments and experiences that we would mark as losing trust in someone we love or in other words, getting hurt. Despite that pain, there’s a part of you, no matter how small, that continues to go on past that hurt. And it’s that part of you that becomes your core strength. The strength that will outlast beyond any hurdle you are faced with.

And when you recognize that strength, that’s when you begin to learn who you are and where to go within yourself when you need the strength to press on. It’s a beautiful discovery; a new form of growth. And when a new test of strength comes along, you will have enough faith in knowing you will survive any challenge.

Bit of Happy #96: Remake The World

8 Feb

“As you go out to remake the world, I offer the following bits of wisdom — keep learning, stay awake to amazement, be kind rather than right. And, remember, while you might not agree with this now, being loved is better than being rich.”
-Anonymous

I actually found this quote on a card that was given to me by a family member when I graduated from college. I thought its message was perfect for someone who is graduating, or in a more general sense… turning to a new chapter in life. It reveals a very important lesson that everyone can take something from. Little bits of wisdom.

Keep learning. Stay awake to amazement. Be kind. Love should be held above all things. It’s funny because these are often things I find in many other quotes. These very bits of wisdom seem to pop up everywhere. And it’s that continuous reminder that makes me realize how important this advice truly is.

You know, this quote makes me picture a person after 100 years of life, with skin worn from wrinkles and hair of snow white, speaking these very words. That after being in this world all this time, they have learned – whether at the time or when it was too late – that these are the things that are truly important in life. It would be the advice that someone would give today’s youth as guidance towards a path of no regret. Of fulfillment. Of love.

And in the end, isn’t that what is most important? It’s not having all the money in the world. It’s not the tangible possessions either. But what is important is this… It’s the search for happiness and one day reaching it. It’s finding love and understanding how to appreciate it. It’s living in the moment and learning to cherish those memories.

Life is what you make of it. You can live in a world of gloom and darkness – purples and blues. Or, you can open the window and let the light shine in. The choice is yours for the making.

Bit of Happy #87: It All Begins In The Mind

26 Jan

“Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
-Frank Outlaw

Like a small seed planted into the ground, your destiny begins from a simple thought. As the thought turns into words, which turns into actions, what was once a tiny seed begins budding in new growth. From your repetitious actions, habits slowly form, and your character begins to emerge. And who you are and the path you proceed in this life will ultimately determine your fate.

I think this is an incredible quote and offers some great advice. It shows the power of a simple thought and its ability to lead you into the future. Watching what you think, what you say and how you act is good practice for anyone. Focusing on positive thoughts will bring positive words, actions and habits. Building an optimistic character will spread that same optimism all around you. And by surrounding yourself with happiness, love and strength, a beautiful flower will begin to blossom.

Bit of Happy #84: A Brand New Tomorrow

7 Jan

Morning Ice Storm in 2009.

“Tomorrow is the beginning of the rest of your life.”
-Trading Hearts

Happy Friday, everyone! Unfortunately, I’m not feeling too well today, but I did want to take a moment and post a quote. It’s a very optimistic approach to looking at life and the road ahead. This quote by Trading Hearts inspires me to take each day and treat it as a new beginning. I believe its words can encourage many with that extra push of hope and motivation to get out there and live life to the fullest! To put the past behind them. To go through each day with a smile. To accomplish all of the things they’ve ever dreamed of doing. To reach their passion in life.

And now it’s your turn – to treat tomorrow as your new beginning. What will you do with it?
